**CCP, please delete this thread, it's true purpose died in it's infancy**

"Since the problem wasn't caused directly by CCP, I'm of the opinion that we shouldn't get any compensation.

However, the threads asking/demanding free SP seem unimaginative to me. So post your crazy/out-there ideas for a original thank you gift.

Me, I'd like an Avatar t-shirt with a slogan about surviving the outage. Or a reskinned ship with all the lights off.

I didnt lose sp so I dont care about sp gifts tho I wont complain if they give it. But if we are talking gifts other then sp how about a quafe faction catalyst or other special edition ship. We did all lose a lot of isk making time.

Well if CCP would extend the skill queues it wouldn't be a problem. Server was down for 24 hrs and then I slept, so round 36 hrs of no access.. skill queue was empty. If you want to force people to be in front of the game.. you need to make it available...

It's called a denial of service attack for a reason. The hackers denied us our service. In this case, EvE.

I'd suggest they deal with it. Its hardly CCPs fault for those that failed to keep their skill-queue sufficently filled. Lesson learned? Always make the last thing in the queue something big.

Post with your main, like a BOSS!

And no, i don't live in highsec.  As if that would make your opinion any less wrong.

Its amusing how many people go into "defensive mode" for their service provider, be that an ISP, game server or whatever.

If I turned your water off for 24 hours (average usage cost in UK £1.75/day) would you think that was fine?

CCP don't need defenders, they screwed up (vulnerability) and someone took advantage. There appears to be a dDOS at the same time (early Sunday morning UTC time) but its not clear to me what occurred after that. What was clear to most English speaking users is that the launcher had a Russian login prompt until the server/auth servers were taken down.

So perhaps its best just to leave it to CCP who have already said they are looking at compensation. There's more to this than just the lulzsec crap.

We should get free SPs for sure.
The problem was caused directly by CCP. Why? Because they should have protected their servers against DDoS attacks using the money we pay for the game.
Companies like Cisco have the solutions and technologies to protect against those kind of attacks. They just cost money.

So yes, it is the direct CCPs fault.

Whatever.

so we should blame a car maker because the car radio was stolen?

I mean, there are tools to prevent and/or minimize the damage, why didn't the maker put them? I mean I paid for the car so they should too!

So tell me mister smarty pants, how do you make the last 36hrs of a skill in a queue any longer??? Server was down for over 24hrs, and then it was night time so some of us sleep.. not everyone is in the uS and had the luxury of being able to be online when the servers came up. Roll

I personally don't want anything but game time reimbursement. I understand that this is not CCP's fault what so ever and I am glad they did what they did to protect Us and themselves. But I did lose about 24hrs of game play and if anything, that is all I would ask for. Just 1 day added to my game time. But if we don't get anything I will not be mad or cry or flame CCP.

I have been here 10 years and will continue to be here.

I wasn't even home most of Sunday, so no skin off my nose. But CCP never should have given away SP in the first place. Now it'll be demanded every time something happens.

It might not be necessary for CCP to compensate us, but it certainly would be gross stupidity for them to not compensate us with something. We pay a sub for access to the server. That access was denied to us for an extended period of time without notice in advance. It without a doubt caused real issues to some players, caused training interruptions and disrupted many other plans. Good customer service dictates CCP at least tries to compensate this with something, since the issues were verifiably caused by problems on their end. So there is a reasonable reason for compensation, doing so doesn't harm ayone, It doesn't cost CCP anything, it buys good will towards them and not doing so will create bad will towards them.

I too blame CCP for having the unmitigated gall to restart the server while I was sleeping.

If there were a way to do it, it might be nice for all accounts whose queues ran dry to have the appropriate amount of sp applied to the next thing, if they were training bubblegum chewing to 4 and it finished during downtime they could apply the appropriate amount towards 5. It would be a wash for CCP and everyone involved so that would take care of the whole threat of continual DDoS for SP.

Personally, it's only a day, I'm on a 23 day train so for me that feels like nothing. And as far as service providers go, I don't recall ever being reimbursed when the power went out, though logically I am not being charged for the power I can't use. Water is a different story, though I've never lost my water before, I think losing such a critical service that provides a necessity is on a slightly different level than losing internet service.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

id rather stay away from the crowd that is all about "justice" and it is not their fault and other bla bla....bunch of suck ups if you ask me.
