Same. Client tells me that 6067 players are connected, but EVE-Offline reports that 7,873 are connected and the server is online.

Edit: Every time I connect the payer count drops a bit.

EVE Offline can only pull data from the servers every so often; too much asking, and TQ will see it as a potential DDOS attack and shut the site out.

I'd wager that TQ's six thousand online are residuals from log-out attempts that weren't completed properly; the system has to time the sessions out before they'll stop registering as 'active connections'.

I can't get rid of my darn signature!  Oh, wait....

You are seeing this because no connection could be made to the content server or something went wrong while loading the online content.

Here's an Idea, - Take some of that 300,000 X $20 = $6 MILLION bucks p/mo, and get a backup server. Raid them together, and when changing things around, leave one of them alone, so us clients can use it while you find out if the changes work or not..
It would save you having to tell us we get no compensation for your more than once per year failures. :D

Oh, and alternate the down-times, so the other half of the world can get good resources without having to play at 4 in the morning..

Wow, you really know absolutely nothing about how database clusters work, do you?

Hint #1: It's not "a server". It's hundreds of blades all hooked together, with assorted support hardware attached.

Yes, Here we call those "Blade Servers" - and the term servers fit the mood better than typing out "get an extra hundred blades all hooked together, with support hardware attached"... that wasn't quite the rant I was going for. Besides, I have you to come edit for me. :) thanks for that. and no, I don't have any idea how database clusters work, that's why I pay somebody else to do it. I am an American, that's how we roll. - I tell you what, shoot me a few million bucks, and I'll figure it out.
the rant worked tho.. It gave me something to do while waiting, and see?.. it fixed it. is up now. XD - It also gave all you guys something to co-rant about, FTW!

You really have no idea how server clusters work do you ?
You're picturing a PC box in a room somewhere, aren't you ?
Roll

Umm, ya. aren't you? - no.. actually I picture racks of aluminum. probably flat, charcoal grey in color. (that is a popular hardware color) filling both sides of the room, with a walkway in the center. A metal or glass door, or both. I'm at a loss as to the cooling hardware included, as I live in a more temperate climate.. maybe they just have an open top, and let it snow all over them. lets see, power supplies at the bottom of the racks for good weight foundation. sliding treys/drawers to make access easier, wires and lights everywhere, and about eleventy-two bazillion little gremlins (and 1 big one) running about pulling and biting at wires here and there. (hence the unexpected downtime) - which.. is happening again now, so I came to rant some more, and give you guys something else to inquire whether I know how works, or looks. :)

Exactly how long do you wait between patches? How big do you allow next accumulated patch to grow?

Problems:

(1) issues with patches do not always show up on day 1 or show only in presence of later pieces of total change placed in later patches. So a few days wait between patches is good but longer maybe only delaying discovery.

(2) The more you hold onto unchanged copy of software...the longer it takes to fix current bug list.

On the whole CCP does a extremely good job pushing out patches in small manageable chunks without holding back overall rate of fixes and progress - Although I occasionally question the wisdom of particular patches being passed out without extra care (especially ones with which need to evolve full in game impacts) .

I sort of got my fingers crossed about Odyssey: not so much from code standpoint as much as from viewpoint of how the in game player dynamics will resolve. CCP may well have misestimated how players will react. More fortunes could be gained and closed than expected and more POS closed. Should be exciting and after all shouldn't CCP get some thrills from the economic-political resolution as well?

P.S. CCP has not had to do it in a while but they can reload EVE to a prior day's software and data in about 6 hours if nothing else goes wrong hardware-wise. So its more a question of when things have gone so terribly wrong that fail back is required. RAID/backup sites do nothing until critical error is detected.

This - (and your other post) I found to be the most enlightening of all the responses to my rant. Bravo! - No calling me out on my lack of familiarity with CCP's equipment? no trash talking? and an included piece of Intel that made me stop to consider.. There are civilized ppl out there after all. - You Sir, have my respect. :)

But it did! I read some, and then ranted... and it worked!
