Hacking or Archeology

I am torn....and probably confused as well, but I think that is a requirement of this game. If you are not confused, then you are not playing this game.

Anyway, my understanding is this: Exploration is a way to make money is this game. Hacking and archeology are two types of careers related to exploration....sub categories or something like that. I think there is also gas cloud harvesting for drugs and salvaging---which I don't understand because it seems salvaging goes with archeology so why would it have its own separate path?

So here is my question(s):

1--these are pretty much the only two choices right? I mean you use exploration probes to find the sites related to hacking or archeology, i.e. radar sites or the other one (I have to check the guide, I forget the name)

2--Which is better suited for a newbie? Whcih is easiest? Which is most lucretive? Things like that.

I have tried looking at the evelopedia, but I am still confused. I am still not entirely sure what kinds of loot comes from each or even if there is an entirely different sub-career that I am missing.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. perhaps a link to somewhere useful or better yet a reply right here with answers. Thus far, yall have been an awesome community. I have no doubt that you will not fail me now.

Hacking AND Archaeology. There's nothing mutually exclusive about them, and due to the nature of exploration (you don't know what you're going to find), you're going to want to be able to do both kinds of sites.

Hacking sites are radar signatures (this is changing to "data sites", though), and they give datacores, invention interface blueprints and components, and decryptors. You can also get bpcs for ancillary shield boosters, MJDs, etc.

Magnetometric sites are archaelogy ("relic" in Odyssey) and salvaging sites (these are going away, so don't worry about them). They give salvage for rigs, including the occasional T2 salvage (potentially very high value), the occasional T2 rig blueprint (some of these are also very valuable, since these are ME 0, compared to invented ones which, at best, are ME -1).

Can't really tell you which is more lucrative since everything is being shaken up in Odyssey. I would say that, right now, Radar sites pay more consistently, and Magnet sites have better potential for OH WOW loot (while frequently being very disappointing).

They're of equivalent difficulty.

These are NOT the only things to find with probing, though. There are also wormholes, DED complexes (with a good probability for high value loot), unrated combat sites (with a lower probability for high value loot), ladar gas clouds (where you get gas for drugs), and ladar combat sites (where you get blueprints and reactions for drugs).

As mentioned above exploration is the focus of the next update, which happens on the 4th, so 3 more downtimes, so any information anyone gives you today will be out dated then. If you are still interested you might want to go on the singularity test server and preview the current iteration of the update, join the singularity chat channel for help https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=6352&find=unread

So you are saying it would behoove me to do both? Not to limit myself to one or the other? That's kind of what I was thinking with this new patch, but seeing as I didn't know what I was doing BEFORE the patch...I figured might as well ask now.
