Hey all,

I'm a few months into Eve and have noticed PI prices dropping a decent percentage since my start. Is this the result from anticipating Odyssey? I haven't played long enough to experience a large flux in Eve's market, but it's starting to make me re-think the PI profession. Thanks all.

It's probably just more people getting into it or something.

I don't see anything in Odyssey that'd cause this though...

Depends on what the good is. If it's pos fuel related I would say most people are swapping over to producing that instead of other goods, in anticipation of the coming ice changes. This is a bit tricky, because at the same time, it's very possible that there are lots of people buying up ice and pos fuel to stockpile it in anticipation of the changes. So it's possible that while supply is increasing, demand may also be increasing. Most likely people are buying up ice more than pos fuel, as that's what they believe will increase in value. So this could be the cause. At the same time, this means people are producing less of the other goods, because they're producing pos fuel instead. There isn't much reason for the demand for the other goods to be going down, so I would take a guess and say the price of the other goods may very well be increasing as a result of this.

I'm no economist though, and there may be other factors at play.

I've been focusing on Robotics. When I started, Robotics was selling around 70,000-72,000 a unit in my area. Now I am lucky to get 58,000. That's around a 17% drop in a few months. I'm a good distance from Jita, but even then its selling around 63,000.

I just finished leveling Interplanetary Consolidation to lvl 5, so I am clinging on hoping for rebound. If not, perhaps a new career path!

Robotics have been 65k isk in the start of 2013 though, so I think it's about more people producing robotics to supply the market. Since 80k isk for robotics is a very nice price compared to other PI products.

Robotics market is very weird right now. Consumer Electronics (half of Robotics) are actually selling below buy order for the Chiral and Toxic.

Mechanical parts are dropping too and it's all related to Ice and fuel blocks. It's possible people are speculating that with the Ice changes and null manufacturing enhancements, fuel blocks will be produced in Null now. This will require more than just convenient materials and available slots in null though. It will require all the high sec, Null alts to exodus to their Null alliances to provide the production skills.

It's a good time to stack if you can afford it.

im no way a analyst for pi but what i have experienced over the years that all the goods that are produced from pi have cycles.

these cycles seem to be normal market supply and demand cycles .

after a period of time product x becomes scarce on the market therefore prices increase until the market is flooded and then the prices fall

this then creates a scarcity for another pi product eventually this supply demand cycle comes full circle and product x is back at what you expect .

im sure the smart pi people actually have charts and sheets on when x product is getting hot and when y product is getting cold

and probably have strategic dump points placed through out new eden.

I've been buying P2 goods to make into P4 product for a while now. As far as I know P4 are mostly components for manufacturing sov structures. Take a look at the price of Self-Harmonizing Power Cores. Price is dropping, inventory is piling up, demand is way down. My guess is that there isn't enough large-scale sov war going on right now to use up the supply.

So with demand down for the P4s, demand drops for P2s, and the prices of P2 fall. Ultimately if you produce something in Eve, something at the other end of the chain needs to be consumed or stockpiled. Guess stockpiling isn't very appealing for PI stuff.

From Odyssey drop date and for the next 4 months or so this is going to be a roller coaster. Buckle up.

Going over to a website that is kind enough to provide historical market data for robotics, I can see a clear dip in prices june~july with the peaks occurring in december~january.

Eve has gone through several changes that affect PI pos fuels... the revamp of PI harvesters, POCOs/taxes, wild spikes in various ice prices (hulkageddon, oxytope interdiction), and yet it appears the trend continues.

I'm sure there are no marketeers taking advantage of these seasonal lows.
