i'm not actually convinced they're sure what they're talking about, especially with regard to high sec ice mining.

they want to make it less passive, yet you can still go afk until your cargo is full. it's still just as passive and afkable.
they want to reward people for putting in more effort, but changing which menu the ice belt appears on isn't "more effort", yet every one is getting more reward.

don't get me wrong, the ice changes are nice and all but they really don't address either of the points they keep banging on about.

oh also that "war dec" comment made me giggle. so fozzy, when are we going to be able to wardec npc corps? because that's what it'll take to war dec miners. or, alternatively what edge are you giving people in player corps to offset the fact that they CAN be war decced?

Oh we aren't shocked. Even at the height of the ice interdictions they flew untanked hulks with cargo extenders that made them even easier to gank. Even now they chose to fly retrievers that are profitable to gank over macks that aren't.

That's because they're going for volume.

Losing one retriever or ten doesn't matter, but you want to maximize the number of ice coming in. The odessey changes primarily aim to force scarcity on a currently infinite resource, this means there will be a price floor for this commodity, so the faster you can stockpile them now, the bigger your RoI will be.

The New tags should make it nice and easy to gank under tanked stuff consistently with out much trouble. I look forward to the chaos in the market, could drive up Ice price and general chaos( is my hope).

They won't be safe from gankers because the gankers put more effort into their gameplay than the ice miners, they will follow the miners and make them explode, nothing will change in that respect. What may change is that we may end up with groups of ice miners willing to fight for "ownership" of a belt, or at least employ others who are willing to gank rival groups of miners.

It already happens in some small way, for example James and his merry band of suicidal pilots have both financial and material support from some miners and industrialists, they're good for business.

Try 11%, that's the NPC corp tax rate.

mine in npc corp, trade ore to 1 char tax shelter refiner. sell maximum profit. tax shelter char never leaves station so no worry about war dec and npc corp means you can mine with only the minuscule chance of being ganked. bonus - this can all be done on one account and with the new plex system will allow you to train that corp holder without ruining progression on your main.
