Active PvP corps - a newbie question!

I have been doing the "newbro," thing in my first few days and looking up all the relavent guides and information about how to get into the incredible depth of EVE mechanics. My fist post in the new player forum didn't get a lot of attention, save for a very helpful wormhole fellow, so I have come to what I believe is the forum of most pvp fans (or is it crime and punishment?) to follow up on my next line of questions.

My first intution was to join factional warfare. This was actually the first pvp thing I had heard about in relation to EVE besides the big nullsec empires which appeared much too daunting for a rookie like me who hardly knows his way around yet. But after some research on that, I concluded I should shop around a bit more. The fine gent in the newbie forum pointed me to some wormhole guides, but I have to admit the disclaimer on all those guides, alluding to the huge time-sink of living that far removed from the rest of space, dissuaded me a bit.

With all that sloshing about in the old noggin, I decided the best way forward would probably be to identify a good home for myself in terms of players, rather than location. So I am asking you, wise and venerable elders of this game, where would you point new players in terms of active pvp corps?

I am somewhat aware of the name-brand outfits like EVE university and Agony Unleashed (mostly because they're mentioned in every thread similar to this), but I feel like rolling through a kind of school may not be as helpful to me as actually learning in the field. So do any active pvp corps out there regularly take rookie pilots under their wing?

Now, I want everybody to find the nearest minmatar and lay hands on him. But first, make sure your hand is balled up in a fist so you can beat the black outta his soul. God smiles when you hate blackness so you beat that matar in the name of the Almighty!

Look for Red vs. Blue as a good way to get your feet wet. You will learn basic fitting by having countless cheap frigates blasted out from around you, and fleet basics, such as following primaries, anchoring, etc. It's not a formal training corp, more a learn by doing thing.
Plus they are good people.

Talk To Sean Parisi or Smook of Fugutive Task Force.
They will help new players who want to pew in FW. They don't care about killboards so you can learn without any pressure.

The newbro who came out with us last Saturday in his Tristan of death got on 11 killmails on his 1st alliance roam including a Proteus kill.
We generally fly Caldari ships but while people are new/still training up we allow some variation.

Once I sort my **** out and get active again (been spending time out and about in Aus 4x4'ing etc) I'll be recruiting and pvp newbs/ low sp will be perfect players to come along and have a stress free environment to pvp all the time Lol

That is the Way, the Tao.

EVE Uni if you prefer the "big thing".
Red vs. Blue if you prefer "organized fights".
T.R.I.A.D. if you want to go Faction Warefare with a small and cosy corp.

Unless you already have a group of friends playing the game, I would recommend running missions and generally do the "highsec" thing until you get bored. That make take you a month or a year.

After that, investigate FW or RvB. You could go the Eve Uni route as well, but don't do that for too long as it's good information but you don't want to get indoctrinated into their line of thinking without first getting some experience yourself and forming your own opinions on things. You can find new player friendly corps in just about any aspect of Eve, but you have to be choose what area of Eve you want to play in first, which is why I suggest staying in highsec for a bit until you get a feel for the game.
