When the ContactList returns a contactID - we currently have no way of determining what it is: Pilot, Corp, Alliance without multiple API calls.

Would it be possible to have the contact type added to the XML output?

This is an issue in various places in the API, and ccp prism X has noted it in the sticky up top. The API doesn't exactly get frequent updates though so I wouldn't hold your breath.

What he said, only way to check is to poke the CorporationSheet and CharacterSheet API's.
