System scanning is now instant?

I like the idea of the new system scanner automatically scanning on entry to local space.

However, I am wondering if it was intended that combat sites were to be instantly scanned. This seems to tip the risk vs. reward of any sort of combat anomaly very much to the risk side.

It's my understanding that at first, the new system did not show the combat sites on the system scanner list, only in 3D space. To compromise, the scan timer was changed to close to approx. 0 seconds. Since that would make it far too easy (even with an instant scan) for PVEing players to escape before a hunter can even find an anomaly in space (as eve space is already complicated enough without another possible 20 sites listed), it was eventually changed to list them in the system scanner window, as it was before. However, jumping into a system now yields those results instantly in the same listed form as they were before. I don't think that was intentional.

I think this will drastically reduce the amount of people attempting to earn money in any security space (mostly low and null) through combat anomalies. This will hurt PVE mainly, therefore directly affecting the PVPers who are after PVE targets.

I do feel like the 10 second timer could be reduced, but instantly is too far, especially as it seems that the change was perhaps not initiated on purpose, but rather through the major change of no tabulated combat site data instantly, where the lack of tabulated data was cancelled.

I assume that this thread will receive the usual assault of "go cry carebear". Therefore, I'll let you know that when I do engage in some PVE in low or null-sec, I personally don't use battleships, carriers or anything that slow. Therefore I will probably still be fine after these changes. I only rat when I can keep 100% attention on my screen and that means even if someone is able to pre-scan the anomaly I'm in, I can warp out before they land, let alone lock me up.

Not to brag, but I'm not exactly sure what it looks like for someone unfriendly to warp in on me.

The last line of your post, I'm sure, will have would-be hostiles from all over New Eden watchlisting you and scurrying to their locator agents.

It does seem a little unusual from an immersion perspective that the list populates instantly even though the scan takes longer than that. Perhaps it's to do with mechanics or perhaps it isn't, but they should at least appear in the list at the same time that they're discovered on the overlay and not before. Perhaps they should be discovered on the overview and not populated into the list until the scan has completed its full sweep. We can say it's something to do with compiling the data.

On the other hand, if there are neither anoms nor sigs in a system, I like being able to tell right away and move on to the next system somewhat quickly.

It just looks like they forgot to add in a delay for populating the list.

Well they will find it hard to get me for the aforementioned reasons, as well as that I am effectively AFK from the game (I just watched the keynote today), due to uni ;).

That's a good idea right there, that the anoms should pop up in the list almost immediately, perhaps they could make it as if the ship was narrowing the signal down (details such as name etc. pop up and then the location and ability to warp pop up in 5-10 seconds).

I re-watched the part of the demonstration of it at fan-fest just now and it does seem like there is a delay in it. Especially considering what Alvatore said about the immersion perspective of the list populating almost instantly (whereas ships need time to create a list of scan results).

So yeah, the problem is either/or between they have forgotten to re-apply the 10 second timer, and some sort of coding error where the scan 'revolution' graphically in space takes approx. 10 seconds, yet the list is being populated immediately (or a mixture of the two).

Thanks for the constructive replies gentlemen.
