Well hello, I would just like to say that I'm new to this game, I am not new by any means to sandbox games however, and I have very much fallen in love with this game. I'm sure that everybody that starts a game gets into a situation where they want to invite their friends over from other games to come and join them so they can experience it together. I have done so in eve.

I have noticed that since I tried this game last time a couple years ago A captain's quarter has been added. I like this feature alot. But even still I have friends as me after watching gameplay, "So are you a space ship in this game or an actual character?" I have to explain how it really is but still I believe this could be expanded.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I couldn't Locate a thread on the forums for this topic.

I believe this game would benefit from Social Hubs at stations where you could walk around with your Pilot and socialize with other Pilots outside of your ship. I have other thoughts on the matter but I thought I would keep it simple for now.

Are there threads on this already? And are there any intentions to deliver something like this into eve?

"The Coffee Shop", as CCP describes the social-interaction part of MMOs, is something that they tried to introduce into EVE with CQ. However, they rushed the feature and added it without any actual content being present (try opening the door) and now because of various issues they're terrified lately of trying to iterate on Captain's Quarters or Incarna as a whole.

So is it something they are just trying to snuff and not deal with right now? Or is it something they are actually working on? Because that can be a pretty huge deal for new players

The feature you are referring to is called "Incarna" (which was the name of a previous expansion).

The long and short of it is that the company who makes EVE (see: CCP)...

- spent years developing it while neglecting (superficially at least) the core gameplay out in space...

- forgot (or didn't have time) to add in features beyond the actual Captain's Quarters itself when deployment of the feature hit...

- deployed it in a very unpopular way (players lost most of the functionality they had become accustomed to and were forced to use it against their wishes)...

- apparently did not to optimize the walking in station code (or something to that effect)... which caused quite a few peoples' video cards to overheat (or become uncomfortably hot at the very least)...

- paired up the deployment of walking in station with Microtransactions... which pissed off a fair chunk of the of the playerbase and set off fears that "pay to win" ships and equipment would soon be added.

This resulted in a literal player revolt that saw 5 to 10% of the playerbase unsubscribing (which was a big deal considering that the game hadn't taken a sudden sub loss like that up to that point). CCP backtracked, apologized, and refocused on the space aspect of the game again. Players rejoiced.

They may revisit the idea in the future (it's currently shelved), but if they do it'll be done slowly (probably when they actually figure out how to incorporate it into general gameplay without taking away from the space part of it).

Don't hold your breath.

If your friends have questions about the backstory of the game then show them this: EVE Online: Origins.

If there is any more progress on Walking in Stations, I'd expect it to be after World of Darkness gets released. The Eve will just use the code developed for WoD to handle WiS.

Doubt it. World of Darkness isn't using the Carbon engine anymore.

So ?

All that means is that WiS won't use Carbon either.

Would you care to mention which developer specifically stated that World of Darkness and "WiS" will function on the same engine?
