Launcher failure as of May 26th - Resolved (?)

The launcher is shitting the bed as of yesterday.

Sometimes the launcher will display images and progress bar, sometimes it will not. Usually if left to run, it will become completely unresponsive (cannot drag the window around). Occasionally if left to run, it will spit out an error report window, the text of which can be found here. SCreenshot of report window here. Cannot launch exefile.exe - it just sits in the task manager and does nothing.

Thus far I have tried:

  • Running exefile.exe , launcher.exe , eve.exe and eve.exe (Safe Mode) both with and without admin privileges. No change
  • UAC is off
  • Antivirus is turned off
  • Uninstall/reinstall
  • Reboot
  • Deleted \launcher directory, reinstalled from Launcher Wiki
  • Running repair.exe repeatedly. Runs for 5 mins and spits out an error code, or sometimes just crashes.
  • Tearing hair out in frustration


I have seen many threads to this effect, but almost none of them have DEV/GM responses. Can we get some help, guys?

Reinstalled EVE again, this time to a different install directory (throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks). Now the launcher launches (sort of) as seen here. It's been stuck on 12% validation for most of an hour.

I've seen other threads with this problem, and no solutions.

Tried rerunning the repair application three times. Failed each time. Error report here.

Attempted to install the version of the launcher used in this thread and others, and now the launcher is just a white box. Ran repair again, errored out.

Reinstalled again. ran repair five times, IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied every time. Tried running update.exe in launcher\cache, still broken.

Rebooted my PC again. After startup, I could not run any shortcuts, or even uninstall the game from the Windows Add/Remove Program wizard. I could not access the install directory due to an Access Denied error. I could not assign user permissions for the directory to my user account. I could not delete the directory. None of the other directories or applications on that hard disk had that problem, and checkdisk came back clean on the drive (F:)

I reformatted that drive, and in the meantime reinstalled EVE on my C: drive, and now it seems to run fine. So... **** if I know.
