EDIT: Okay, I'm a little late in halting the entries, but there's only one submission, so it doesn't really matter. This shouldn't be a hard decision, and it sure won't take a day to sort through them.

Arle Vox gets the 250M due to lack of competition.

Given the concern over the screenshot requirement for the contest, I'm currently asking for clarification from the good folks in charge. If either CCP tells me a screencap of the character select screen can be used to farm sensitive information or someone showing concern over social engineering in this thread can explain how it can be used to gain private info, I'll remove the screenshot requirement. I wanna do something good for a new player, but rules are rules.

If you want to just help out new players why dont you just donate the ISK to the Angel Project?
http://www.sindelsuniverse.com/?page_id=455

Granted i cant say i have any first hand experience with Sindel or the project, but from listening to interviews and similar i still have not heard anything bad said about her or the project.

Of course this means that your name wont be the one a new player looks back on and thinks "That guy helped me out when i was brand new! I will never forget him!".
But people dont do charity for the recognition (well at least i dont) so if someone really just want to help out, why not do it in a way that more people trust, and just enjoy knowing that you helped making a new player happy?

While I don't have any intention of pursuing this, mainly out of tiredness of working on lengthy written assignments, I'm curious as to why SO many people are against it. I went ahead on the alternate thread and received the 10mil ISK as was promised and so far I've not run in to any issues in the last few days since that took place... why or how exactly is it a scam? I'm just somewhat confused, so...

There is no way for us to "prove" that this or the previous one is a scam, but normally in EVE people dont give stuff away for free without an alternate motive behind it, and it sets off red flags when someone tries to make it as public as these people are. Especially since there are so many other easier ways to do it, that does not involve someone posting threads advertising them self makes me very suspicious.

And then you have the concern that someone is just trying to get rid of ISK they have obtained in ways they should not have, which can cause so many problems for people.

So basically, people react because something simply feels "off" and with the paranoia most older EVE players evolve, we tend to trust our gut feeling, and dont feel its right to sit idly by and watch something that could potentially lead to a new players destruction.

Granted these people might also just be trying to create some fame around them self, and if thats the case..well..If they keep it up and they are true to their word they will archive it no matter how many times we question them and their motives Big smile

Fair enough. I've read plenty about the paranoia and scams that infect (for lack of a better word) so in that respect I can somewhat understand. On one hand you've got a person who appears to be keen on aiding newbies, yet may have ulterior motives, and on the other, you've got those who are trying to stop newbies from falling prey to any of those potential ulterior motives so as to ensure they don't get scammed and lose interest in the game or so on... Unfortunate double edged sword, yet at the same time, something that is appealing to many people interested in the game...

Oh the complexities!

Hmm... that may be a good Plan B if CCP rules against this contest. I've bookmarked the page.

What about equipment? You do not need to send ISK to help - I need Sisters Core Probe Launcher and it is worth 40 mio, if I am right. ;) Or Armor Kinetic Hardener II - I need two of them and this is another 4 mio... I have a long list if someone really want a week old player to get his Gnosis out of hangar. ;)

Damage Control II
1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II
2 x Armor Kinetic Hardener II
Corelum C-Type Medium Armor Repairer
Medium Ancillary Armor Repairer
3 x Medium Nanobot Accelerator I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Large Shield Extender II

and so on. Otherwise I will fly only till I meet the first suicide ganker, who needs to have Gnosis in kill list no matter what it costs :(

I am temporarily locking this topic for further review by the Community Team in the morning. Pending our decision it will either be moved to In-Game Events or unlocked.

After a discussion from the Community Team we have determined that giveaways are inappropriate for the New Citizens Q&A Forums for a variety of reasons. Hence this is being moved to In-Game Events.

OK, so I didn't read this whole thread, and I'm not sure if this thing has ended, but here are some answers:

1) I have a friend who had been trying to get me to play for a while now, but the stories I had heard regarding his gameplay scared me away. He is in a low-sec corp, and when he went to bed, he had an earpiece in and be in his corps teamspeak channel for sleeping players. If their station ever got attacked, he would be woken at ungodly-oclock in the morning to defend it. This did not sound like fun at all!

But recently I started taking a "History of Video Games" class at University, and I can get extra marks in this class for playing a game if OKd by the prof. I asked if I could try EVE and he laughed and said yes, that I'd either hate it or love it. I am the latter :)

2) Right now I'm doing missions and building a stockpile of salvage. I hope to get into manufacture and invention eventually, but for now I'm all PvE. My ship is too pretty to lose in a PvP fight...

3) I have already joined a player-run corp. I received an invitation randomly in my mail, and I decided to try it out. I am impressed, and love my current corp. I've only attended one mining op, but payouts are based on the time spent mining with the group.

4) I would have to say that traditionally, I've always preferred to solo my way to the top, but with my experience so far in this corp my outlook may have to change on that. Everyone is super friendly, and the corp is really diverse, in that anything I can do in-game I can do with corp members who are already doing that thing.

5) I've only seen Eve-University, and I frequent this site for tips and explanations in a diverse spread of areas. I've seen a cople other sites, but google linked me there so I don't really remember what they were called.

Sites like these really amazed me at how large the game world is. There are so many aspects to any arm of the game, and it will take some learning to be comfortable in any one of those areas. The fact that these sites are out there, though, eases me into knowing that if I have questions (that corp-members can't answer) I can find it all from these sites.

6) I am a devout PC-gamer, and refuse to ever buy a console. I do not own a PS3, and never intend on owning a PS4. Although Dust514 is a REALLY wicked concept, the meshing of two game worlds, it is console exclusive and so I must decline to partake.

That being said, I have a brother who owns a PS3, and has asked me what games might be good. I have suggested Dust514, in that it is free and looks like a pretty cool game. I have yet to see him playing, but he got it and does enjoy it so far.

All that being said, I hope I win this money. And of course, because I hope to win it, I hope all the rest of you lose :-P
I plan to continue Eve, and one day hope to wake my friend up at some ungodly hour to defend his station (because I'm a bad person, teehee)
