Launcher.exe does not close

One thing that I've noticed with the new launcher, and it does address at least some of the issues that I've seen here. When you X out of the launcher window, Launcher.exe continues to run...there's no way to shut it down aside from manually 'end-tasking'. So, if you use the launcher to start up an account, close the launcher, then try to open the launcher again at some point.....another instance of launcher.exe starts running, but visually, nothing happens. So then you try to launch it again...next thing you know you have 6 instances of launcher.exe running in your processes tab....and you still can't log in because they all seem to assume that the original one is still running. In essence, all you've done by hitting the X is to close the visual interface, not actually close the program. I rarely ever post on the forums, but that is just the most inept coding that I've ever seen....X'ing out of a window and it not ending the exe file. How on earth does something like this get thru testing? Which just confirms to me that ccp never even bothers to test their software. They just release it to the game and let us test it for them.

Anyway, I hope that this little piece of information at least helps some of you with of the gazillion issues that are out there

Same here. Please get this fixed CCP, I have an old PC and need zombie processes eating RAM by the 100MB like I need a 3rd leg. Then again, a 3rd leg might actually be useful when I'm drunk or otherwise unbalanced, so now I dunno what I should compare the launcher process with.

Please file a bug report with the logs that you can find in the launcher\cache directory inside your EVE folder. If you need help in creating a bug report, please take a look at http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Bug_reporting

Did that yesterday, id:158914

Filtered as attached to a known defect.

For my too, on my win7 boxen, on Ye Olde XP-SP3 boxen I have to kill it manually.

And I'm a little bit miffed that when people are reporting it we are told to file a bug report.

Now, filing a proper bug report with logs, and screenshoots and system descriptions do take a wee bit of time.

And when you do you can be certain to receive a nice mail saying "thanks for you bug report, the bug is already know, your report has been attached to a known defect".

Which is good.

But when exactly the same bug is reported on the forums, 1 day later and the dev response is "please file a bug report" I start to get a bit miffed.

If you actually do want us to file proper bug reports, then use that willingness correctly.

Do not use "please write a bug report" as a way to buy time.

If you are aware of a bug and you are working on it, then say so.

If you want additional information or more cases than say so.

But don't say "please fill out this form" and then answer "oh, we know, working on it".

That's a bit unfair towards the devs here. Just because a bug report is filtered to a known defect doesn't mean the information in the report is not valuable and helping to solve the problem faster. As a programmer trying to fix a bug you always want as much information about it as possible. And there's no way for the dev to know if your properly written bug report would contain additional information before you write it.

And to be honest, the bug reports in this thread (including my own) were pretty crappy and were lacking useful information like OS and launcher logs. So I expect that the OS info and logs I posted in my proper bug report will be looked at and might help fix this issue.

This is true.
My point was that instead of just reel of the canned response "please file a bug report" it would probably be better to say "yeah we aware of this issue and we are working on tracking it down. Please file a bug report and include x,y and z to help us track it down faster.

I never write crappy bug reports ;)

I have to admit that I quite often can't be bothered to write one at all (but then I complain over the issue).

But when I do I do include all the information I can think would help me tracking down a similar issue in any of the softwares I am or have been responsible for.

For your information, we've released a new launcher version (2.1.545736) to TQ today that addresses the shutdown issue among a few other things that we observed since deployment.

I've been having the same problem, but with this launcher update, I had no Launcher.exe processes open when I started the game.

Thank you.
