The Naga eh?

Can anyone at CCP enlighten me why they've stepped away from the avian names for Caldari? Especially with Naga being deity-like, surely that would have been a better fit with Gallente?

Because a Naga isn't a god but a legendary serpent from Hindu legends also means 'snake' in hindi and several other local languages.

And my point about it not being avian is nullified how?

Tengu and kitsune, unless you try to claim those two aren't mythical creatures as well.

I wasn't arguing the mythical nature of it, just the step away from a general avian theme.

Tengu is avian related as according to Wikip they take the forms of birds of prey, but I'll cede you Kitsune as it's about foxes.

I'm just generally quite curious how CCP pick the names and how they gauge the "fit" into Eve.

Look at the model again, it comes in a two-pack already.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

If you're going to go to all this effort to put a new ship in, how about making it worhwhile to fly.

Bring back the original 2x2 bonuses so it's entirely function as a hybrid boat or a missile boat. That's versatility. Having one ****** non-damage bonus for two different weapons isn't versatility, it's stupid.

It'd be nice if CCP explained what logic they used for the Naga's bonuses, beyond some generic boilerplate 'these are Caldari bonuses'.

I liked your post because I like Caldari.

I unliked it because you decided to put fail Rails instead of Caldari Cruise Missiles.

Cruise Missiles run at the same speed as heavies meaning that this ship could have kept up and fought along side Caldari Drake fleets.

10% Rail Dmg is not gonna do much between Alpha Arty and Scorch.

Another bastardized blasterized Caldari fail boat with Torp Launchers so it can station camp too. Great.

Ever shot a cruise missile from long range?

If so, it probably hasn't hit the target yet. Good luck with that fight!

Of course that is a great reason to not allow cruise missiles right?

looks good, but the railbonus is pointless.

give it 5% to torp explosion radius instead, otherwise it'll end up as weakest of the 4 new BC's Sad

Can someone from CCP please give the official reason why this tub should not field cruise missiles?

I mean rather than let us speculate and spin, please tell what were the considerations? Talon does rails and blasters and Naga does rails, blasters, and torps. Meanwhile no tier 3 BC does cruise missiles. Why?

How avian is Scorpion or Basilisk?

They left that bird only thing quite a while ago, in fact, none of the races have a consistent naming scheme. For Tier 1 maybe, but there seem to be no hard and fast rules that CCP is using.

Sooooooo, is the Typhoon in any danger of losing its "possibly the most versatile ship in Eve" status and share it with the Naga? Unless of course the new Minnie BC, the Tornado, can also fit missiles, drones and other goodies then you would have 3 very versatile ships. CCP should introduce the Minmatar/Caldari hybrid ships......then all versatile ships could be flown by pilots with versatile skillpoint distribution.

I played around with the naga on test server today and IMHO IT SUCKS ASS compared to the other tier threes. I cannot see it being a viable platfor with its current bonuses. To be honest, I wouldnt mind if it was to specialize in torpedo dps, but it needs an explosion velocity increase and a damage/rof increase. As it stands, it currently recieves range bonuses, but the torpedos are able to hit jack sh*t and it doesnt have nearly the dps as the other platforms. As far as it being a dual purpose boat, capable of using both rails and torpedos. Give it the same bonus, either damage or rof, to both torpedos and rails, but make it unable to fit cruise or blasters. This would allow it specialize a little more, so it would be capable and practical to run as a close or long range platform that is good at what it does.

These tier threes are supposed to have bs dps on a bc hull, and be very good at it. As it stands, the Naga has less dps than the raven, and cannot fit much in terms of a tank. I was completely unable to fit a single large shield extender with all lvl 5 fitting skills for my launchers and tank, as well as engineering 5. I will say that the cap is pretty nice, 3:30 seconds with microwarpdrive, scram, and resists running.

I also noticed, when fighting an oracle, that there is a major gap in the speeds of these two ships, which may not necessarily be a huge problem. as long as the Naga has something good going for it. But at the moment I can only see myself having to train a new race in order to have a USEFUL teir three battlecruiser.

CCP, I understand that the Naga was OP in its first iteration, BUT PLEASE FIX THIS! Caldari have always been on the bottom in most classes when it comes to pvp, the ferox is a POS, the drake has the sig radius of a small city when fitted for t2 launchers and extenders, and today, except for POS bashes, the raven is unused and not accepted by fc's, and the Rokh is utterly useless. For a class that is meant to be full PvP I would like to see the caldari in the upper tier of the pecking order for once.

Love the ship!

Torp and Blaster fit are the two fits for this ship that will make it epic. Blasters will have a 10km opti and torps will fire out to 25km (t2 short range) or just shy of 30 with normal torps. Both fits are very high DPS, torp at 939 DPS and blaster at 850 DPS. Torp fit will bring both high DPS and High Volly highest volly out of all the short range fits for all 4 ships. Plus the tank isn't too shabby but CCP said they were going to be glass fits anyways, made for high DPS low tank.

The hybrid bonus is normal for all caldari ships, never will they have a damage bonus, but this ship will be able to hit smaller targets because of its tracking bonus.

These ships are made to fight battleships and capitals (meaning no need for the SC nerf anymore).

I'm not sure where you are getting the tracking bonus from, it doesn't get a tracking bonus. It get's a range bonus. The Gallente Talos is the only one with a tracking bonus.

And regarding they will never get a damage bonus, the Rokh and Eagle are woefully underpowered compared to the alternative races and absolutely should get a small damage bonus for blasters as part of the hybrid review and balancing, so they are no longer the joke ships everyone laughs at when you bring them to fleet.

My initial feeling is that the Naga might be the weakest of the four, but to be honest, it needs several nights of testing and different fits to confirm that. A fellow corpie had a good fight vs a megathron in his last night, with the Mega in 20% armour before he popped.

The Oracle tank numbers (buffer fit) aren't that far off the Naga and it has a much smaller signature, being only slightly larger than a Zealot, but is only slightly slower than the Naga, even with two armour plates in it and a trimark, but it does get a DPS bonus and has medium slots to fit tracking computers. I feel this is a stronger boat with better range and ability to quickly change crystals, I think CCP Guards prediction may be correct!

Such incredibly ugly ship.. not to mention it'd look alot better (but still butt ugly) in big size. It should've been a dread, or the very least a battleship, but hey. Yuck. What?

Those bonuses are just aweful. Not enough speed or missile range to use torps, not enough speed to use blasters, and not enough dps from railguns for such a tankless ship.

Remove the hybrid bonuses and give the ship a stealth bomber style torp velocity and radius bonus so it can fly in drake gangs (cruise speed bonus would also be nice - enough speed to actually hit before the enemy titan raises it's finger at you and warps out); otherwise, this ship will be completely useless and not allowed in fleets like the rest of caldari.
