Had a go at a remodelled Typhoon (updated)

2nd Edit: Picture now has basic colour so hopefully it's more clear now.
3rd Edit: Worked out how to render
4th Edit: Relatively final version (rendered)

I'm not an artist or a 3D artist but I thought I'd have a try and share it for fun.
I thought I't try playing with the symmetry/asymmentry balance of the ship and I think it came out ok, at least it's still recognisable as a Phoon which is a complete must in my book!

Here is the first attempt.
EDIT: Updated image with launchers etc.

Any constructive comments on how to improve the model will be gratefully received. I'm just doing this to learn sketchup and it's been good fun so far. If only proper 3D packages weren't so ridiculously expensive!


I may have a go at the reaper next, hmm...


....and now the reaper, that ship bugs me more than most Cry

Well I kept the bits I like most or could do in sketch-up! The typhoon needs an update - let's hope you're not too upset when it happens.

Makes me appreciate the excellent work behind the new apocalypse model, great stuff.

Typhoon is WAY too iconic to change so drastically like that. +1 to OP, still looks and feels like the Typhoon, but fixes the worst part (that ugly rear end).

This looks good though and a million times better than what we have now.

The front reminds me of the Hurricane, which I like quite a bit.

Sorry, but I just don't think the Typhoon should be extensively remodeled like that. It's as iconic as the Raven, which CCP also only made subtle changes to when updating it.

Uh, the Megathron was not drastically changed. It still looks and feels like a Megathron. That Typhoon mock up you guys keep linking to looks like a Hurricane cannon.

Predictably I agree, the ships should look like an update of the same model. The deviant art link has a tempest concept that I used to like. The actual update in game is far superior to it. EVE artists are doing a fantastic job (apart from reaper/talwar). The new kronos is simply excellent, as is the new vargur, armageddon, drake and stabber/vagabond.

The Phoon is iconic and still needs to look like a Phoon. I'm sure they'll do a great job when the artists get round to it.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do to the Dominix. Originally, I hated that ship. But after flying it, it has become one of my favorite hulls in the game. Does it need updated? Yes. I didn't think the Megathron needed updating, but after seeing what they did to it (subtle, yet jaw dropping), I am eagerly awaiting the new Dominix.

A similar story with me and the Typhoon. Though I've never flown the Typhoon personally, it has actually replaced the Maelstrom as my favorite looking Matari BS somewhere down the line. The Typhoon should get a nice drone bay on its belly and shoot the missiles from its mouth after the redesign though. NO EXCEPTIONS, CCP!

The 'phoon is supposed to look like a sewage pipe with engines attached to it using duct tape and some chewing gum! It's the true minmatar way.

I'm going to work on my effort to include 'mouth' based missiles. I really do recommend fannying about with sketchup, very therapeutic.

On another note, I have no idea where anyone would start with the dominix. It certainly needs a refresh but there is no way that the forum crowd would be happy. What am I saying?
