Eve Universe : Origins is now the intro cinematic of the game.

My feedback : Quality is meh.

At least it's better than telling us to be bold, right?

Anyway, the quality's not bad for being an intro movie. The client download is big enough without having to download the intro in full 1080p.

Also.. seeing that part in the video where the capsuleer loses her Slicer (poor Slicer) and the warnings are flashing reminded me about how they changed the ingame warnings to stop looking like that. Off to post unhappily about it.

Gratz to CCP for using the video for the intro. It gives a more engaging tale.

I'm not overly bothered by the intro quality as I will only see it once, but out of curiousity I downloaded the 1080p video directly from Youtube. The 1080p MP4 file size is 91MB. The intro file in the CCP's game directory is a whopping 188MB and uses the bink file format. I guess bink has a poor compression ratio?

Shame for folks with a poor connection that have to download that kind of file size due to inefficiencies with the video player.

If you play it at 720p or 1080, sure.

EDIT: Considering how old the bink file format is, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it had poor compression. That's probably a good part of why the quality is what it is - anything better would see the file size scaling up to 200, 300, 500 mb.

Quality seemed fine, though I don't play high res or max settings (especially on the test server).

My issues are more with the content of the movie. It's a beautifully made and cinematic trailer but doesn't really reflect EVE that accurately. You never see your clones or clone bays in game, the pod looks more like she's sitting naked in a cockpit (or like the Iron Man movies) over a capsule filled with fluid and the data plugged straight into her brain, there's no EVE Gate super-structure shown before or after the collapse of the wormhole and the ships seen leaving Earth and crashed on the planet (making them Terran) are used in all the new 'Relic' sites even though they are labelled Guristas something or Serpentis something else.

I'm aware I sound like a nit-picking nerd ('cause I am) and I'm not suggesting CCP change it (like I said it's beautiful and cinematic) but I wonder if it sets the wrong tone for new and old players alike.

I'm Naomi Hale and this is my favourite thread on the forums.

I'd agree with you, if the current situation wasn't so poor already. On TQ now we have almost nothing to indicate to the average new player what the EVE universe is about and how things work according to the lore. It has lead to a situation where many people seem to think the pod is just an escape pod and we are just captains of the vessels we fly. The new cinematic might not be perfect, but at least it has some history and shows the neural connection needed to control ships. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement.

Also there are anachronisms in the trailer, as we see Taloses during the Gallente-Caldari war :D

For me it's not a perfect intro movie, but it's an improvement compared to the old one, for a minor cost.

A few small points:

What we see now is not the same as what we might see in the future. If CCP weren't so terrified of ever touching WiS again, even a little bit, we might be able to see a Rebirth Chamber added to the CQ for stations that have medical bays. Either way, they've stated that they want to generally make the game experience look more like what's in the trailer. Now if only hardened bittervets would stop crying bloody murder about how it's terrible that something's different every time anything got changed.

I suppose I don't need to tell you that as capsuleers, the data is in fact plugged straight into our brains. That's a lot of what we have implants for. They allow for the man-machine interface that makes capsuleer ships the roving terrors that they are.

What the trailer shows regarding EVE Gate is the initial discovery and the first people to travel through it. The stargate itself wasn't built for a bit after that.

Now as far as the old wrecked Terran vessels are concerned, I agree. It's a little bit unseemly and doesn't fit quite right for these things to be labeled as "Guristas This" and "Sanshas That" and "Angel Other Thing". Well, maybe Angels since they're all into the using-old-Jove-tech thing and might have found some old Terran stuff too.
