If you're running windows, open your task manager and kill the launcher.exe process. Then run the launcher. For some reason it closes but, leaves the process running sometimes.

I have done that since I had more than 10 launcher.exe running.I had to format my pc because the new launcher was giving me many errors and bad stability.Really disappointed from CCP.

If when you click on the desktop icon and nothing happens, try this.

Browse to EVE Online\launcher\cache and there should be an "updater" program in there. Run that and see if it fixes your problem.

Same issue. Launcher process runs in Task Manager, but nothing happens. When I run exefile.exe, the game launches, but crashes on login. I have tried using the repair tool, which runs normally for 8 minutes or so before throwing up 'unknown error' messages. I have restarted my PC, uninstalled/reinstalled the game, but it still doesn't work. There is nothing in the launcher/cache folder. I was able to play this morning, but not since.

Windows 7 x64

*EDIT: Can't submit a support petition either: "An unexpected error occurred"

If you reinstall your PC, neither the repairer nor the installer seem to install the runtimes. The launcher does stuff to the hard disk for a moment, then the process stops and disappears from task manager, with no messages and nothing ever displays on the screen. In event log/system I have been getting 3 errors for each run of the launcher:

Source: SideBySide, Event ID:32
"Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system."

Source: SideBySide, Event ID:59
"Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.CRT. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system."

Source: SideBySide, Event ID:59
"Generate Activation Context failed for D:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\nsj1C.tmp\NSISHelper.dll. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
.
"

The problem is detailed here:
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/43681/Side-by-Side-Configuration-Incorrect

The solution is to install the runtimes for VC2005 (VC8.0) and VC2008 (VC9.0) (x86 is probably the needed version, but may as well install both x86 and x64 if you have a 64 bit OS, since each is needed for the corresponding software type, IA64 is not needed unless you have an Itanium*):
VC9.0 Runtime
VC8.0 Runtime

With thanks to 'Member 3490500' on Codeproject.com for the info to sort this out. :o)

I am having the same problem. First the launcher didn't do anything.
I noticed that I had multiple instances of "launcher.exe" in the task manager and I killed them all.
Then it came up, with the "play" button greyed out. After a minute it disappeared.

Just had the white launcher screen several people have mentioned. It was downloading stuff in the background, and after about 3 minutes it restarted itself and worked fine.
