Assigning title to self as Director

All,
When I go to edit member (my character) as a director I am unable to assign any titles as they are all ticked. If I edit one of the "Untitled Title"s and create a new title it does not automatically assign that title to my character. Does the CEO of a corporation need to assign titles to directors? This seems a bit odd if directors can do the same to any other member of their corporation.
