How broken would your mind have to be to even consider using this?

It doesnt matter if its a scam or not, its bloody pointless.

You think CCP would develop an in-game Trust mechanics that would be un-safe for the players?

Perhaps you should read a thing or two about it before embarrassing yourself in public: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/IGB_Javascript_Methods

Wow, you're childish. I know exacly how it works, having been programming computers since I was a child. At age nine, I was actually sent a cease and desist letter from Hasbro for creating a Monopoly game in Pascal. I know computers and I know programming. Perhaps you have an issue with the way I expressed myself. By modification of in-game client, I mean performing functions on behalf of the user, which is very much possible with the IGB JavaScript library.

And what exactly can they do on "behalf" of the player? Send ISK automatically? Empty your wallet? Undock you from station?... tell us boy wonder, coder since age of 9, creator of Monopoly in Pascal... tell us...

I feel this one goes over the line and petitioned it and contacted their ISP. Their FAQ lies by saying the only thing they are collecting from you is your name, but that is not how the IGB trust mechanics work. They're getting a great deal of information about you including your location and the ability to modify your in-game client. I wasn't willing to trust their application to investigate it further but I suspect they are data mining among other things.

You contacted their ISP? For what? Lying on the internet in about a game that is famous for its lying? The ISP is under no legal obligation to do anything about the website and therefore won't care. I say this as a lawyer who has been practicing law since the womb. My mom would hold the keyboard of my IBM PC up to her stomach so I could press the keys. I once sent a cease and desist order to some 9 year old for copyright infringement of Monopoly.

If you guys don't want to take this seriously, that is your choice, but I won't be baited into any attempts at trolling. Just because Eve is known for scamming (which, by the way, I don't have a problem with -- I get a lot of enjoyment out of educating others about scammers), there should be limitations. This is an issue that can have consequences for the Eve community.

If people start developing websites for the IGB that are dishonest and used with malicious intent, applications that actually serve a useful purpose will never see the light of day. Perhaps CCP decides that trying to police this is too much of a hassle and they discontinue the IGB JS library altogether; that's a loss for the community.

If they offer a legitimate service, then I would not have a problem with them, but given they aren't honest in their marketing text and they're spamming Jita local, I doubt their intentions are very honorable. So, take your side. That's what Eve is -- choosing sides. Support them or don't. And reap the consequences made from either choice.

They have since fleshed out their website considerably more than it was when I last saw it. Perhaps it's legitimate; I cannot say. Looking at it, it has the appearance of being more legitimate than it appeared when they first launched. If it is legitimate, then I think it's an awesome idea and I'd support it. It's certainly a lot more clear what the website is now that they've put some actual effort into it. But they should update their TOS, as this is simply not true and what sparked my initial response:

Quote:
What info is EVE-BAZAAR.COM requesting:

- Your Character Name will be the only info you will be giving out by Trusting our Website.

Now, for the record, this is why this matters...

- Our alliance uses the IGB JS to provide internal services to our members.
- We're not alone: I've no doubt Goons, TEST, and many other alliances do the same thing.
- I would expect that Red Frog Freight uses the IGB to facilitate their internal operations.
- There is at least one training alliance that uses IGB to facilitate their classes (AGONY Unleashed).

All of the above are private case uses of the IGB. There are public ones also, such as tools to help you find locator agents you meet the standing for and to keep track of war target locations. The IGB JS is a very special tool, and I will defend it against anything that is malicious in intent because I don't want to see it get destroyed by misuse. I would hope that everyone feels this way. Some things are worth preserving.
