There's a line of beer from Stone Brewing called Arrogant Bastard. It's a phenomenal beer, but it has a very strong flavor that some people can't handle. The bottle reads:

This is an aggressive ale. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory–maybe something with a multi-million dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made in a little brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless fizzy yellow beverage will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multi-million dollar ad campaigns make things taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

While enjoying said beverage recently, it occurred to me that EVE is a lot like this beer. EVE forgoes traditional MMO concepts and instead strives to be something greater, even if that means alienating some of their potential customers. And for that, CCP, I salute you. Please never change.

That is all.

Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse only good beer! Has to be on tap, bootles of imported beer tend to be off. Corona will do if have to have a bottle.

Only one maybe two downside(s) to Eve Online MMO. And fixing it is easy as ABC or 123. First fix would be to remove 'M" from Eve Online, you know the M "M" O. Second fix would be to remove CCP from Eve Online. Come to think of it removing the online part of Eve Online would be cool too!

Do not assume anything above this line was typed by me. Nerf the Truth, it's inconvenient.

Corona? Really? I find I really don't like it. It tastes flat and flavorless.

Perhaps we should remove the alcohol content from beer as well while we are at it...

I think EVE is a great first MMO, though. If you can handle it you'll be able to take on just about any kind of game. If you fail you'll still probably approach other MMOs more critically.

EVE as a first MMO? Then you will be bored by almost all the other games.

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

This is true, I have no plans to try other MMOs.

Eve forgoes very few traditional MMO concepts, in most respects it is barely any different to playing most MMOs on a PvP server (even more so MMOs that allow looting), as an alleged sandbox is very limited.

Its most distingusihig feature is the high number of pretentious types that think what is a fairly simple game, is "complex" or different.

I've shown EvE to quite a few of my gamer buddies who play MMO's. I've picked up friends from many fairly hardcore PvP MMO's too, like Ultima and WWII Online...and no takers yet.

The avatar issue was not a failing any of them pointed out.

Two guys thought the ship control system was crap and expected a more wing commander type of thing...these guys are flight sim guys so they found EvE's indirect control scheme untasteful.

One guy considered it for a few weeks, but ultimately turned it down because he found that the game lacked roleplaying options.

A couple of guys didn't care for the way PvP lacked twitch and felt that hand eye coordination played no role.

The fantasy crowd guys hated the game...too many little windows all full of numbers, very slow pace of travelling, activities like mining were too boring etc etc.

Shrug...I think it's a fantastic game, personally.

Arrogant Bastard definitely is some good brew for hop lovers. I'm fond of Stone IPA (including Ruination) as well.

And of course people who prefer Belgian ales aren't going to like it. When you're used to an area of 30 IBU's, going above 100 is going to taste like crap.

I love Eve, but have the same issues with getting friends to play. Biggest one I hear is it's boring. One guy said I'd rather play WOW it's all action, he also complained about the controls. Most people I know seem to be into those Medal of Honor type games. The hand/eye thing was a bit of an issue for me when I started too. I'm used to being faster of hand and mind than....well everyone else. Eve was the first game I ever played that I wasn't instant win. Which is probably the reason I kept playing. Eventually I quit caring about winning and just enjoyed the game(flying spaceships). To be honest spaceships are the main draw for me, what other spaceship game is out there? I believe unless you have a fetish for spaceships you will probably just move on to something more exciting.

You sir, have been had.

To be honest, I've never seen an ad for arrogant bastard in my life. There are some fantastic beers that come out of Belgium, and there are some terrible ones. Region is probably the worst metric you could use to determine a beer's quality. Taste, obviously, is the best, and taste is subjective.

That's why so many people eat ****, because taste is soooooooooooooooo subjective.

hmm I see your point

it's a pretty creative advertising theme, too bad a lot of people already are "barefoot and stupid", with no help from companies who make plebeian ale

If i had to become rich, i would find anything edible or drinkable and would aim it for oral fixed people. Like a 20 $ water.

"Have this, put it in your mouth, you are putttng in your mouth the best stuff anyone can put in her mouth" -it's a winner trick that never gets old.

So silly. You're gonna pee it in 3 to 6 hours, really is that important how it tastes...?
