I have an ALT with negative 2 (-2) unassigned skillpoints in the Neural Remap. Why?

I want to remap my ALT's attributes, but I noticed a few things that seem odd to me. So I'd like answers before I go ahead.

1) After clicking remap, I substract 2 from Memory to reapply to Willpower, but the available attributes was merely brought to 0, from -2. Why is this? Why has the "unassigned skillpoints" for my alt start at -2? My ALT's stats, without any augmentations, is (22, 15, 18, 18, 26)

2) My alt has 3 bonus remaps available. My main only has one. I've never actually used a remap for any of my characters before. I've assumed all characters were allowed to remap once per year. I don't think they accrued. If they do, why doesn't my main have 3 as well?

Old Caldari Achura had 3 Charisma. Later the minimum was made 5 in Apocrypha when remapping was added. When learning skills were removed it was increased +12, so the minimum is now 17 but old Achura are still -2 in Charisma.

I am old Caldari Achura. I chose to remap, losing 2 points to other attributes to bring my charisma up to the new minimum of 17. It was still worth it to train at 2700 SP/hour.

Bonus remaps are given out at the whim of CCP. I have 4 bonus remaps. One was an optional Christmas present to the character with the highest skill points on the account. You had to choose it. Not everyone did. All new characters start with an annual remap plus 2 bonus remaps.

There is an annual remap. It is always used first. It renews every 365 days after last use, and does not stack. Bonus remaps are only used after the annual remap is used. You can use a bonus remap at any time, and the bonus remap does not change the annual remap timer.

This isn't entirely correct. The remap is not annual and it does not renew every 365 days.

Instead what happens is when you do a (non bonus) remap a cool down timer starts running and when the timer has run down you can remap again. The cool down timer runs for 365 days.

Okay, thanks. And just to confirm, if I use a remap, I must wait 365 days before I can do it again? In other words, I won't be able to temporarily change my stats to speed up a skill, then reset it to normal after wards?

If you use a remap, your annual timer starts. If you want to remap again before the timer resets, you can if you have any bonus remaps remaining.

Bonus remaps are rare and valuable. Don't waste them needlessly! [Hence I still have 4.]

Indeed. NEVER, EVER use a remap to speed up a single skill! Make a Skill Plan, where you combine a series of Skills with the same Attributes, and remap accordingly.

Personal opinion: newer Characters shouldn't even think of remapping before they have a basic set across the board.

That's not really true either because new people. More than anyone will be spending a lot of time training spaceship command skills and core skills which both benefit greatly from maxed intelligence followed by Perception.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

My advice I give to new players is to dump all points equally into intel/perc for their first remap, drones and mining is a little slower but everything else is faster and gives you the best start.
For someone new its difficult to make a 6month plan and stick to it as they most likely will try everything.

Intelligence and Perception works great for Navigation Skills as well.

Like I said, personal opinion.

It depends on what you're going to do. If you're going to mission and sell your mad loots a few of those Social and Trade Skills won't go amiss either. After that, Charisma can go on the backburner for a looong time, only to return for Leadership Skills, if you're so inclined.

I'm not talking months of no remap, but the first week or two. Get your bearings, figure out what you'll need and go from there.
