Finally going to focus on sentry drones but I'm not really sure which drones will perform best in the higher level ranges. So which are they? Big smile

5-40km ~ Garde II
41km-65km ~ Curator II
66-100km~ Bouncer II
101km+ Warden II

Depends of course on how many omnidirectionals you have fit, and damage weakness of your target, but you're generally still best with gardes vs anything if you are close up, due to not only the higher base damage, but much higher tracking than say, bouncers or wardens.

Long version:

There are a few damage profiles for the NPC enemies in EVE Online. For each of those damage profiles, there is a single damage type that is best used. Most NPC enemies stick to a single damage profile, but in many cases those damage profiles are altered for the elite versions of the NPC enemy hulls; for example, Kinetic damage is the best against Guristas, but Thermal damage is the best against their elite hulls. Garde IIs offer the highest raw damage output, and they combine this with the damage type that is either best or second-best for the most enemies: for Guristas, they are second best and best against the elites; for Blood Raider and Sansha, they are second best; and so on. When compared to other drones which one might think would be better against a given enemy, i.e., Curators against Blood Raiders or Sansha, simple math shows that the raw damage output is sufficiently high enough, especially with good drone skills, that the Garde (and any Gallente drone for that matter) outperforms the Curator (or any Amarr drone). Even in PVP, the Garde is the sentry drone of choice because it has the highest raw damage: PVP fleets tend to be omni-tanked, so damage type is largely irrelevant and so the superior raw damage makes it the weapon of choice.

The only reason to deploy a drone other than a Garde II is because you cannot yet do so, in which case a Garde I is your weapon of choice in the interim; or, in those very few cases in which you are a very smart fellow who knows exactly why you need some other drone in order to make a marginal improvement in your fitting performance.

I take it from the fact that you posted this thread that you are not the latter, and so I further endorse the former: Garde II.

For long range level 4 mission sniping, Warden IIs are quite handy, mine can hit out to 104km at the moment.

That makes you one of the latter category, but even then I'm sure you carry Gardes to swap out once the enemies get close. Because let's be real, if you're using Wardens then you're not killing things fast.

This is true. I set a domi with mjd and warden I I Set 100+ off and kill from 105 km off. Insta pop frigs 2 shot cruises. 4-5 shot bus's. this hold for all factions and missions, with that set up I finish the hardest missions in 20 mins flat, never worry about damage to ship thanks to mjd.

Speaking of Domis with Garde IIs, post-Odyssey a Dominix with 2 Omnidirectionals will have Garde II's with 68k optimal and 12k falloff, assuming Gallente Battleship 5.

Curator IIs were 119+24.

Sentry sniping Domi with a Micro Jump Drive is going to be fun.

There's a feature in the game called "Show Info". I suggest you use it. Seriously.

"Best" depends on what you want. Some sentry drones are good for close in fighting. Others are snipers and can hit far, far away. Some sentries do EM damage. Some do Kinetic. ETC.

-.- Show info on drones is something CCP needs to fix. Drone range for example is nowhere to be found. DPS numbers are also misleading ingame.

Drone optimal and falloff are both listed in the attributes.

But it can be quite tricky to figure out what the relative values mean on drones, and especially sentries.

I personally found this page to be more than slightly useful - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database:Drones:Combat_Drones:Sentry_Drones

I use faction gardes and wardens. with damage and tracking mods they're good enough for L4s without three weeks training sentry drone interfacing V

pick in this order:

I need range!
I need tracking!
I need damage type X!
I need cheap drones!

and pick depending what is best!

easy!

(hot tip, the compare tool in game makes finding out what you want very quick)
