Anyone think it looks like an 80s VHS player? Especially when they showed it with the kinect camera ontop.

Lets look at their naming history
Xbox
Xbox 360: Because they thought putting the Xbox 2 against Playstation 3 would go badly due to stupid consumers.
Xbox One: Do they want people confusing it with the first Xbox ?

"Microsoft has shared no specific details concerning the console’s GPU"

The rest of the tech specs of this new XBox that were announced are basically almost the same as the ones from the PS4 which were made public some time ago.

So, I'm wondering, what could that mean - that they still haven't decided on a video solution (in which case, any visuals they presented were at best misleading), that their graphics performance is much worse (pretty much the same story as XBox 360 vs PS3), or that they shockingly decided this time to fork out for a better video solution (and want to keep it a secret for as long as possible so they can rub Sony's face in it when retail starts).

For reference's sake, the video solution in the PS4 is in the general ballpark of a desktop PC Radeon HD 7790 / Radeon HD 7850, which means somewhere worse than a desktop GeForce GTX 660, but possibly better than a GeForce GTX 650 Ti "boost".

P.S. I haven't owned any console personally and I don't plan to start now, so it's mostly a matter of "I just hope it doesn't drag down the worst common denominator across consoles and PC for next-gen games"... so, basically, that the next XBox has a video part that's AT LEAST on par with a GTX 650 (non-Ti).

The 99% of that thats a realist says column A. The 1% optimist in me says column B.

100% of me says its Microsoft. Expect disappointment.

CCP has stated that they intent to keep Dust 514 alive and evolving along with each new console generation that is coming out or at least they did when they first showed it off at a fan fest not to long ago.

I seem to remember something being said somewhere about it being as simple as pressing compile for ps4 as supposed to compile for ps3, could be wrong though

That's almost certainly hyperbole, but there's an element of truth to it: Dust is made on the UT3 engine which is designed for portability, and it's a cert it will be available for the PS4.

PS3 ... bunch more of the 'new' xbox features covered

kinnect isn't new either ... shame as I think this is better than the wi/ps move system

theres not a whole lot of actual newness to the "xbox one"

I'll be interested to see whether they stay with UT3 for the transition or rewrite it for UT4 or some other engine though. The switch between generations would be the only logical choice to do an engine switch.

I have a feeling that porting stuff from UT3 to UT4 will be fairly straightforward and only involve minimal hassles, then you can spackle shiny stuff on a new layer above it.
Just a guess, though.

I retract my previous statement, and will say I will not buy this thing, even if PGR 5 is one of the launch titles.

Forza 5, Halo 5, Gears of War 5, Project Gotham Racing 5... Oh, and TV!!!11

Excuse me while I spew bloody chuncks.

Steambox sounds mighty attractive, right now.

- The Kinect isIntegrated so tightly into the Xbox that I doubt it can be unplugged as the
Kinect is the on switch.
- The Xbox in designed to be left on and accessing the internet when you aren't
using it.
- Radar like capabilities on the camera.

So we have a device with radar and camera functions that is an integral part of
a device designed to access the internet while you sleep. Oh, and to complete
the Big Brother analogy, it's also hooked up to your television.

The "XBone" as it's being affectionately referred to really isn't doing anything for me... It looks much more like a media center than a gaming console, and all the "features" look... rather intrusive as the last poster commented...
Think I'll stick with PS4 if I can ever afford it, and farewell Micro$oft.

From what i understand, it won't be that simple. Sweeny started working on UE4 from the ground up back in 2007, already targetting 'next gen'. While the design philosophy on the whole is the same it won't be a straight up iteration of the engine like it was from ue1 through ue3. Think of it as the jump from idtech 4 to idtech 5 - While the core design philosophy is identical (it being Carmack at the helm for both), you can't straight up take stuff from one and put it in the other.

That you don't have to rebuild your package every time you make a change is a huge, huge change already and it makes me pretty sure that porting content will involve exporting it into it's individual parts from ue3 and importing it into ue4 (models, textures, animations, whatever) rather than converting ue3 data straight up to ue4. I'm quite sure the data structure has had to change quite a bit.

After all that's been said, i don't think Dust will ever be ported to UE4. An engine switch like that is difficult to pull off, especially when so much of every single part of the game is interwoven with one another to some degree on a technical level. However, UE3 is VERY scalable still so i'd expect some juicy extras when it comes to the PS4.

Also, when Dust comes to the PS4 it will also come to the PC around the same time.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

I wouldn't necessarily be so sure of that.
I mean, you have Sony's "Planetside 2" for the PC competing for potentially vaguely similar users, so it stands to reason Sony might have possibly shuffled in some "don't port this to the PC too soon" clause in there at some point (especially since CCP didn't really seem interested in making a PC version in any official communications so far either).
So, it might happen, but most likely only eventually, a long time later, not right after the PS4 version is out.
Of course, it could be as you say, but I don't think it's very probable.
