Well I guess they (CCP) want to implement a better way of switching characters (at some point in the future and this is the first Twistedmis-step). For some reason the loading screen is in their way. Or more likely it's also a loading bar, albeit a very beautiful one which will be greatly missed because it adds *just* the right amount of atmosphere prior to entering the game in contrast to an ugly launcher.

Of course CCP being CCP, their first implementation of this turned like the inventory and so many other things prior to this, into a debacle.
They'll fix it of course in due time.

I'm not even surprised anymore that this went so wrong for so many with the list of things 'that go bump in the night' when it comes to CCP patches and surprise changes. At least we still have our station environments (back).

A devblog BEFORE yesterdays patch, or a big announcement would had helped preventing/controling much of the current outrage.


I'm convinced by now that sadly they'll not learn from this, they didn't from the inventory so why from this?

I believe the login screen's music and art (which changed each expansion) combined to form a piece of art and a unique user experience in a game.

They were iconic.

Removing them, while a technical advance and helpful for SSO, was implemented poorly because it just drops you to a much-less-artful character selection screen. The EVE new player experience will never be the same, and it is now a lesser experience. This is a matter of taste and elegance and whoever approved this change did not give enough merit to "this downgrades EVE as a matter of epic spaceship videogame art" factor.

CCP, please find a way to bring back the login screen art to some other part of the game -- so that people may experience what was one a high quality aspect of EVE. in-game screensaver? I don't know. But it's time for a team in Reyk to start brainstorming.

By making it more complex, once they whip it into some semblance of where it is currently, they can then claim an 'improvement'.

P.S. for the guys that worried that the marketing division is driving these ******** changes, they are right. It brings conflict to the most important aspect of EVE Online, it`s forums, so enjoy.. and meet you in Lazerzzz Jita.

The unfortunate thing about this for the subscribers is that in all honesty, the login screen and music is utterly irrelevant to game play and performance.

As far as reasons for keeping it go, we don't really have any strong logical legs to stand on concerning the issue.

Same with the vanished Jukebox.

Pretty much one of the most pathetic whine threads of GD.
And that takes really much.

Though, i can't deny a certain amusement about all the tears...

I got lost in thought... it was unfamiliar territory.

It's irrelevant to people who have been playing for years and just ignore the login screen, but when you have people who feel like trying that spaceship game they read about somewhere, a login screen with a nice, artistic design that showcases the game's graphics looks a hell of a lot better than "log in through the launcher, get dropped into character selection, spin your ****** ibis around or walk around in a single-player closet before undocking to mine in said ibis"

My favourite was the one for.. I think incursion...? Incarna ??

It was the sacrilige with lasers flying past the screen, (probably was a devoter) but had the render of a sacrilige


Anyway, it was just awesome gliding past the login shooting a few times. Something that was lost after CCP started featuring asteriods in the login screen.

This change is counter to the direction that CCP have said they want to go in.

You , sir, are a tasteless toadie and a prattling poseur with absolutely no sense of style, uniqueness or flair. Your repetition of an overused meme just illustrates the fact that you are as incapable of independent thought as a rock is incapable of comprehending quantum mechanics.

The fact that you don't care about the loss of the login screen and thematic music, one of the things which used to set Eve apart from other MMOs is apparent and your opinion (wrongheaded as it is) duly noted.

I agree. The music, the images, they've been an iconic part of the EVE experience. And with the loss of the jukebox I would fire up a login and let it sit just to play the nice login tunes.

Maybe the old screen could sit behind our character selection/news info? The station could spin there and the music could play.

Wow, this is some total bullshit. I really hope they replace it with something better, because that really, really sucks. The launcher has no flavor.

What a curious thread. Usually anything that isn't "omg !!! spaceships in space!!!" is to be purged from all of Eve. Now a whole thread waxing nostalgic for a login screen and theme music. What next? Cats and dogs sleeping together?

I turned off the music the 2nd week of Eve so I guess I'm missing out on that grandeur. For what its worth, I only have 3 accounts, but find the new launcher adept at launching them as the old way.

Nostalgia aside (its not something im given to) the new login/launcher screen is a step backwards in my opinion.

It looks terrible. Its cluttered, there is a ton of information on it and half of it you really dont need when you are logging in. You know there is something wrong when 9 out of 10 functions on the launcher screen sends you to a website link that is opened in a browser. How is that usefull? Instead of adding useless clutter to the launcher, add one link that sendsyou to the eve online main site if you really think people need that option. Chances are that you allready have a browser window open anyway, as that is most likely the first thing you open after booting up your pc.

Meanwhile the login/launcher screen doesnt even let you change the settings of your eve client, woops. And Im not sure about this, but it seems I cant open the launcher while I have a eve client running allready. need another client open? Nope sorry you have to close the one you are running to open the launcher... What?

The launcher screen is there to send you into the game as painlessly as possible and granted, you can now login directly from the launcher but in fact when you compare the new with the old functionality, you really arent getting much in terms of ease-of-use with the new. The only step made redundant by this new launcher? The play button on the old launcher! which could be bypassed by having a shortcut directly to the client. So really what you have done is you have replaced the old animated in-game login screen which had bucketfulls of style, with a combination launcher and login screen that is an absolute eye-sore!

This is the equivalent of google changing their simplistic and functional style, with something that looks like freakin' yahoo.
