It will always have company in the Raven, but yes I agree.

More horizontal designs, and more twin hull designs please. Big smile

Edit:

My thought is that Vertical designs look best on larger, slower moving vessels.

Horizontal designs work best for the more agile ships.

Twin Hull can go either way.

I can see it on both, actually.

Vertical ships have their appeal in looking "different", and "unique" (see: Naglfar, Myrm, Tornado, etc.) Horizontal and wide ships have their appeal in looking like a "flying wing". I would absolutely love to see a ship that really looks like a flying wing (not named Catalyst). That said, the physics of making a flying wing in space is difficult, as you have to balance the thrust carefully, and its much easier to design a long ship than it is to design a wide ship.

Balancing a vertical ship is no different than balancing a horizontal (wide) ship.

I always loved the Catalyst. It was my favorite ship in my early days, when it was such an accomplishment for me to buy something bigger than a frigate.

Yo mama is so wide, she needs a cyno to go shopping.

I don't always post on the forums, but when I do, I post with my main.

Right. That is also why vertical ships are rare. Same physics, different dimension.

There is no vertical in space nor sound!

Personally, I always thought this game, as a whole, is too oriented to be a space game. Would like to warp in upside down or cyno jump into a system with no relative alignment.

my 2 cents

More difficult to design, perhaps, but wider (or taller for that matter) ships allow for more options in engine placement and some nice advantages to manuverability because of that.

Perhaps the best example of these principals is the Star Fury of B5 fame. Ugly as hell, but very functional for what we SciFi buffs would consider a realtively low tech vehicle.

Your ship's computer automatically orients itself to the galactic plane in order to properly position your ship's communications equipment for maximum reception of interstellar communications... or some nonsense like that.

First of all, let me say that I like the look of the new BCs. With that said, I think their is an issue with ships that are vertical such as the Oracle, or as the OP proposes wide. The issue is that designs like those offer more of a target when facing (or retreating) form targets. A pointy shaped ship (such as the Naga) offers less of a cross section when approaching, but is able to turn 90 degrees to the side should the need arise. I enjoy variety in appearance as much as everyone else, but there are practical matters when you rotate a ship through the various axis. It will be curious to see if the signature radius of the new ships (particularly the Oracle) reflects this.

Vertical ships look "wrong" to me. The nightmare looks as though it should be a stationary POS control tower or something.

technically wouldn't ANY ship that's not vertical be horizontal, regardless of whether it's forward axis is long or short?

Invariable plane

A ship's communication equipment gets data from stargates, so the galactic plane is much less important than the invariable plane.
