Ok, let me start off as saying I am being completely serious. I know this will sound like a troll post but it is not.

I have thought about this and thought about this and can not for the life of me figure out this whole single sign on thing or the new launcher.

Can someone explain it to me, very simply, how it is useful to me as a player? Again I am not trying to troll or anything, there has to be some advantage or something I am not seeing. There might be a player base I don't know or understand. So seriously just trying to figure it out. I would love to give feedback on this to help my style of playing if I understand the intended player base for this change.

I mean I understand the old launcher, go check see if there is an update, if so update the game, if not well the whole reason I double clicked on you is to launch the game. That's it, no other reason. To me that's just simple and easy. It was nice, occasionally there would be an add or an announcement that was displayed nicely. Occasionally they would distract me but not often I just wanted to sign in and play the game.

Still that was too much for me I set up shortcut right to the client to bypass the launcher. Only time I used the launcher is if there was an update, I might use it couple time a month. This is way faster especially when you log into 4 accounts. Again, the whole purpose of me sitting down and clicking on the icon is to sign into the game.

So I updated the launcher last night, waited until the update finished. Man that took forever. I thought must be because first time launching. Closed it, relaunched it. The thing take 4-5 minutes to finish scanning or what ever it is doing before I can launch the game. So I close it and used my old fashioned short cut that launched the client directly. A clients pop right up ready for me to go play the game.

The launcher looks like it goes out and displays something from the web page. I didn't look at it, what ever it was it was way too busy. I went and surfed the web in a browser while waiting on the patching or what ever that scroll bar is doing at the bottom. It looked like it is displaying some news, really I was focused more on the progress bar, why does that take so long. I don't really need that, can we have an option to turn that off. I do go to the eve site and read the forums almost every day. There is honestly nothing earth shattering that I can't go a few days without reading. Again, just want to sign in and play the game at this point. I am committed, to playing the game at this point. Not reading the news on eve. This might be cool if we can customize it to show what we wanted. Like maybe pull in RSS feeds for devblogs or for certain forum threads we are interested in. I might sit there and give it a glance in the 4-5 minutes it takes to update. However still might just skip it all together by launching the client directly.

So now Single Sign on. I am not sure where the heck this used at. It is not really a single sign on? I think Single sign on and think I enter my account name and password and I can launch as any of my characters on any of my accounts. This would be useful to me, but this is not how it works Again. At this point all I am trying to do is get into the game and play. I am not trying to go read forums. I am not trying to update my account information from the web. I really just want to sign in and play the game. That's where everything happens, in the game.

So Last night I never even used the single sign on feature I admit. I still don't see the point. I log in every night to 4 accounts. When I sit down at the computer unless I am just going to put something in the training queue I just sign in every night to all 4 accounts. So again firing up the clients directly works great. It is fast and skips all the other stuff. So this single sign on thing I guess I really need explained to me. How does this benefit me the player? What is the player base that this is aimed at. I am trying to figure it out and be helpful. However for me I just am not finding any of this useful and more a hindrance of the whole goal of the launcher. To launch the game.

is there a fix planned for people who use very long random passwords for muliple accounts and usually use cut and paste to log in via launcher? Not very user friendly at moment.

thanks

The launcher should remember passwords while it is open, and forget them all when closed.

The new launcher seems nice. I have two suggestions:

1. make it remember authentication for a while - counting from when the client disconnects, when it connects
2. make it remember said authentication for multiple accounts simultaneously

(i have a difficult password :)

I really miss the Eve Online Login screen. It really set the tone for each new release.

I don't particularly care that the launcher remembers my password (for the session).

Everything else about the launcher is a step back from what existed before, IMHO.

Now it's a static webpage type screen, full of Ads. If you wanted to more ads, then I guess you got what you asked for, but it looks like every other failed MMO now.

Really, Eve should still launch into the old Login Screen. I guess your committed to the stupid launcher, but maybe you can make the character select screen like the old login screen instead?

Absolutely Agree,

CCP again loosing focus on the importance of game presence and impression for the majority for the sake of the minority convenience junkies; circa 'Incarna'?

I'm in IT, I get the purpose of the need for BT mechanics but CCP, don't lose site of the fact that EVE was always about awe and brilliance of its content. No other game presented such technically graphical brilliance or could show it so well with its awesome expansion theme boasting Login interfaces; and so many too.

Ask yourself this CCP; everywhere (Fanfest, EVE web, FB etc.) we're presented with a glimpse of Odessy - you've even updated your FB cover with it - but how the hell are you going to get the awesome sense of change that we're in the new expansion next week with a plain old launcher and no graphical Login UI ?? over to you.

My biggest annoyance with the new launcher is that when using multiple accounts, it makes it so I have to reauthenticate when I switch characters on an account other than the last one I logged in to.

Possible fixes include:

  • Adding character switch to the client
  • Adding the ability to have multiple logins stored in the launcher simultaneously, and pick which to launch
  • (Unlikely) enabling single credential signon to multiple accounts

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong thread, it's the only dev thread I could find on the topic that isn't locked, and this is starting to bother me.

This is the only thread I could find about the new Launcher that wasn't locked; so was left with either posting here, or in the Odyssey Issues thread.

I experienced an issue today regarding downloading the new expansion. I run three different physical installations of EVE; one for each account.

The previous launcher would allow me to download a patch once, then export the file to be saved. Then, when starting the launcher for my next account (different EVE installation) the old launcher would first check (and use if found) to see if current patch had been exported. Made for patching multiple installations rather painless.

Today was not the case; I had to download the expansion 3 different times using the new launcher (868MB x 3) Cry .

Yes, after my first download, I tried to export it. However, I got a message saying that the patch had already been saved.

2nd installation, after downloading a 2nd time I exported the file, and ignored the message, clicking yes to save the file.

3rd installation....still downloaded the complete file....again.

Was this intentional??? If not, could you please look into this and fix.

Would it be too much to ask to have account-based settings for display etc so you can use the launcher without having to use junctions to get each account set up where we want them to be ?
