What if...

and I know its a big if.

Instead of NPC's running the factions what if one day through elections or something like a faction wide poll we have players running the governments. I mean that would be a huge feature that would make EVE insanely more fun and interesting.

I know it would never happen and would be insanely complicated but adding the politics would be awesome we would have real wars and historic events.

Anyways thought it would at least be a good topic to discuss.

I for one would love to see which nullsec players ended up running NPC factions. Imagine Mittens taking over the Caldari faction and making Jita 4-4 nullsec space.

Any scenario would be awesome, we would relive the star wars saga to galatic wars on real life world war scenarios, the game would never get old you could have 2 years of peace and routine and then BAM! Galatic war, bad guy wins and its oppresion for everyone, a rebellion of good guys slowly takes it back or gains another faction as an ally. I'm sure ccp would need a safety to keep new players coming, maybe a event of nature that wipes out the universe if it came to it or not just let it roll

We used to have this via Alliances.

Unfortunately they all got greedy and decided the RMT element of the game was too tempting so we now have these boring coalitions because high-standing members can make a living and pay off their yachts and housing mortgages through the efforts of internet spaceship pilots.

Players already run governments.

I woudl much rather see an RTS-style AI be put in charge of the factions, Civilization/GalCiv/SoaSE style. that way the NPC's can make political decisions adn cammand armies they build with their own miners and industrialists, to fight against the nullsec entities. This will be a stone to two birds in taht the NPC faction's reaction to the nullsec warlords would help to stir wars (as they choose allies and enemies amongst the capsuleer fations, instead of capsuleers just choosing who THEY want to eb allies with in NPC space), as wella s giving NPC faction players an introduction to SOV warfare adn big-fleet battles.

this would also encourage self-sustainability in null, as falling out fo favor, or ebing perceived as too warlike, by the NPC factions (both highsec and pirate), could have you barred from their space, on threat of mass fleet reaction should you choose to enter.

Devs have stated that in a perfect world this is exactly what they want to see. But the amount of balancing mechanics would be wildly over-cumbersome.

It would be fine if players like ISD's were elected to run these stations. However to make it all work you couldn't change security status below 0.5 for anything already 0.5-1.0. And you wouldn't be allowed to make isk in any way shape or form for doing so. Like was stated before Huge alliances helped fund and start up RMT. Also it would just end up like goons is where your alliance could vote in who ever they like through majority rules status.

Something clever

I am beginning my campaign for Gallente Federation President, right now.

If elected, I promise to do my best to make sure every Gallente character gets 50 exotic dancers and a Navy Megathron.

I'm Jarod Garamonde, and I approved this message.

I disagree with this. If elected Galente Federation President, I will want to make Oursulaert and Old Man Star 0.0 systems.

It could be interesting, but the powers these governments have would need to be very limited. Also a way to use force, to remove any official, would be good as well.

Yep, this would be very useful.
