Here is the fix for Mac

This works for a MacBook Pro with Mac OS 10.8.3.

Summary

  • Go into "EVE Online" app package located in "/Applications" and delete the file "common.ini"
  • Download and run "EVE Online Repair Tool" for Mac as admin user
  • Fix permissions in the "EVE Online" application package
  • Run EVE

Details
I am going to explain how to do this in Terminal because .. well .. because that is how I did it.

Deleting "common.ini":

  • Use Terminal or Finder and delete this file:
  • /Applications/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/EVE/common.ini

Downloading "EVE Online Repair Tool" for Mac:

Running the repair tool as admin user:
NOTE: Someone told me you can do the following: "right click, select Open, and then click the new button to open it anyways". If this works for you, you do not have to do the rest of this little guide. You just need to wait for the repair tool to finish and then start EVE.

  • Open Terminal
  • Type
  • sudo "./~/Downloads/EVE Online Repair.app/Contents/MacOS/EVE Online Repair"
    and press enter.
  • Type in your Mac password
  • A file finder will pop up. Locate the EVE Online application package in "/Applications" and press "Open"
  • Wait for it to finish

Fixing permissions in the "EVE Online" application package:

  • Open Terminal
  • Type
  • sudo chown -R YOUR-MAC-USER-NAME:admin "/Applications/EVE Online.app" and hit enter.

I hope this works for you :)

Is the Mac version of the EVE Launcher causing problems? The issues relating to the webservers should be resolved now, so the EVE Launcher should be able to once again query them for information.

Do you happen to have any logs for the initial problem that caused you to work around this?

I was unaware that it had something to do with the web servers. I experienced the issue at about 20.30 EVE time. When I opened the client, a generic looking dialog box would tell me that there was no connection to EVE, but that I could still launch the game. Upon launcing, the server status said "Protocol is incompatible". This happened multiple times and wouldn't go away.

I would be happy to post logs for you, but I seem to be unable to find the "launcher.log" file (if that is the file you are looking for). If you tell me how to find the logs, I would be happy to send you the information. Do I just paste it into Pastebin and post the link here or do you prefer a more proper support channel?

UPDATE: Found the log files. Where do you want them?
