Steam Mac possible solution: what worked for me

having the same "cant find content server" problem starting my steam installed eve client. I did the following.

1) "delete" the common.ini as mentioned in a fix client problems wiki page. but it does not trigger an automatic repair
like described. and we dont have a repair.exe on mac it seems.
to delete it: open terminal.
cd "/Users/xxxxx/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/eve online/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/CCP/EVE"

xxx is your user name.

mv common.ini common.ini.deleted (so you can recover it if needed)

then in steam, right click on eve game. choose properties. Local Files tab: verify integrity of game cache this will cause Steam
to download a bunch of files.

once ready, start the client directly in the folder: /Users/xxxx/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/eve online/EVE Online.app
(maybe this would also work by hitting play in Steam)

This finally got my launcher to update Eve. After downloading and applying the 500MB patch the client finally started again.
