Insane screen tearing

Okay so whenever I fire up EVE I get insane screen tearing and the game runs very slow from the tearing. Additionally whenever I minimize or close the game I get a whole screen of orange-pink blur like an artifact that doesn't go away unless I ctrl alt del to refresh the monitor. My computer is a Samsung laptop with a 6490m video card. I have zero problems with other games like Crusader Kings 2 or World of Warcraft. I am assuming that EVE isn't detecting my primary video card and somehow is using the Intel chip to process graphics which is why it's causing problems?

Wow, I guess no one knows how to resolve this? :\

Usually that's from drivers being out of date, you should have an option in game to pick your display, I can't confirm it but I think if you have 2 cards and they are both enable you should have an option of which to use. Should be the first drop down. If you think it's using the Intel chip and it very well could be, my crappy laptop I use on the road has an intel chip and used to do the same color issue on minimize, then you can always try disabling that chip if it will let you. Just make sure windows is set to use the other chip.

How do you set WIndows to use my Radeon video card rather than the Intel chip? Right now if I try to disable the intel chip then my monitor will shrink to smallest resolution and run as if there is no video chip installed.

it's being a while since i managed an ATI equipped comp, but i think he catalyst interface probably have a setting somewhere in it to force the use of ATI GPU instead of the intergrated intel, for all 3D related stuff, check catalyst config and you might come up with something related to "prefered gpu" or "default gpu" or similar thingy

I can't find the option but under application profiles I see CCC even admitting that it is using the Intel chip over its own chip! Dafuq?

Bump. I still can't figure out how to enable the primary video card for the game. I can't find the setting anywhere in the CCC or ingame (the menu only shows the intel chip also).

You're shooting the wrong screen.
Computer management - devices - disable Intel gfx completely.

I did try disabling the intel chip in device management but all it did was reduce my screen resolution to 800x600. Basically making the laptop act like there was no video chip enabled despite having kept the radeon chip enabled.

Alright, I'll try to help based on what I've read.

Without knowing more about your computer, yes, because it is using the 6490 it is not going to run EVE very well. While it may suffice for WoW or Crusader Kings - EVE is a tad bit more intensive graphically. The 6490m is probably integrated so it uses your system memory instead of dedicated memory. Perhaps I missed it, but is there another graphics card installed on the laptop? If so, you do not have the correct drivers installed (if any at all) else it would show up in EVE and Windows would (probably) use it over the 6490.

When you disable the 6490, Windows will use a generic display driver, so don't do that. That is why your resolution goes down.

Edit: Also, if you haven't, update the drivers for the 6490. http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/amd-radeon-6000m/amd-radeon-6400m/pages/amd-radeon-6400m.aspx
