Saisieni Loyal State Citizens,

On the appointed days, we gather to pay our respect as capsuleers to the fine citizen that is Admiral Visera Yanala. Let us not just give due honors to her actions above Caldari Prime on March 22nd, but to her entire career of distinguished and continuing service to the Caldari Navy and the great State it protects and serves.

“Only I can make myself fail.” - Caldari proverb

Here is a woman who lives a life of making hard choices, choices many of us could scarcely comprehend the gravitas of. Here is a woman who does not ask why she must fight. She does not question her lot, nor does she tolerate those who do. No, she faces down every man, woman, and enemy with the same fierce determination that she showed us all in those final moments above Home.

“I shall not stand aside. I must hold; not for my own sake, but for the sake of others.” – Yakiya Tovil-Toba

Admiral Yanala does not back down. Not in the face of petulant capsuleers with egos too big for their britches. Not in the face of Gallente dreadnoughts peeling away her shields. Not in the face of orders to enact a scorched earth policy. No, she holds firm to what must be done... no matter the cost. This is the mark of the Caldari. This is what our people should strive for.

“Does it matter if we are remembered? Our sacrifice matters.” - Admiral Yakiya Tovil-Toba's last speech

Even as we celebrate her actions, even as we her shout her name to the skies in pride and joy... we must remember not just what she has done and continues to do, but what she stands for. There is a lesson here in her life for all of us to learn from. It's not a lesson I would presume to teach you by simply posting it here, for it is a lesson even I am still trying to understand and learn in its entirety.

That lesson is Heiian. The honorable resignation of self, the Caldari concept of loyalty and subsumption of the self to the group identity.

This is her legacy.
