Hello , all

I am a frequent flier in null sec angel space and wonder which would be better the mach or the rattler. I will mainly be doing forsaken hubs and some complexes. Considering the update for cruise missiles and the TE nerf. Just wondering which is better. I have a budget of 1.5 B. Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I'm not sure about how much moving around is required in null anoms, but if no moving around is required the Rattler is already able to project damage better than the Mach and with cruise buff it will get nice dps buff and will even do better than the Mach if everything spawns in its range. However the MWD Mach can close the distance really fast and the mobility is useful outside combat too.

Bear in mind that the Rattlesnake's primary weapons are drones, not missiles; the cruise buff will help the Rattler, but it's basically down to the drone bay in that boat. Good range control - for example, judicious use of an MJD - will give you first-class long-range applied damage, and while the Machariel depends on mobility, the Rattlesnake can tank like a brick even if it's webbed down.

Also don't forget that the Mach's paper DPS numbers are at point-blank range, assuming you're using autocannons.

Rattlesnakes are a lot cheaper too compared to the Mach (hull price). So you won't have to compromise your fit at all. The Mach on the other hand won't leave you with much room for your mod budget.
Personally, I would feel safer in a Rattler than a Mach in null.
Also you'll go through ammo really quickly with a Mach versus losing drones mostly from neglectful piloting in a RS. Sure you have missiles, but if ammo still is a concern, just fit RRs instead to keep drones from popping if aggroed.

If you are serious about plexing and you only want to use one character get a vargur, otherwise get a mach.

Why vargur or mach if serious about plexing?

use a mach. drone aggro changes make the rattler annoying. plus angels fly right to you anyway. you don't even need to pimp it much.

Yes because you use drones other than sentries 99% of the time in a rattle???

All I can say is that anyone having issues with drones getting killed in PVE has to be one lazy SOB. Actually attend to your ship and there are zero issues..

It's not in other ppl's interest for you to farm extra isk faucet into the Eve economy by grinding faster, thus, everyone wanting you to use Rattler instead of Mach.Lol

One thing to keep in mind is that as of 6/4 all nullsec anoms will have scram frigs in them, which to me makes using a Mach at point blank range more of a risk because if you are NPC scrammed when neuts show up you could be screwed. Not that there aren't tactics to mitigate this, but they involve you getting less than optimal isk/hr out of your Mach. If you use t2 sentries the Rattle starts to become a more attractive option

I use droneboats for forsaken hubs, 8/10s, etc.

Sentry drone aggro is a non issue. They don't get targeted enough to be an issue. If they do get targeted, its easy to manage aggro to keep them alive or switch them out.

if your only consideration is isk/hr in a forsaken hub, a machariel will work better if you fit it properly (meaning autocannons and not artillery). Actual DPS when using garde IIs isn't very good because they will do thermal damage. You should use bouncers because they do explosive damage, but their overall dps is a bit lower. Your actual dps will be considerably less than it would be with a machariel that can use explosive ammo (fusion) and complement it with beserkers (explosive) for the T2 cruisers that are harder to track with guns.

So I think if you want the greatest performance, use a Machariel. If you want convenience, use a rattlesnake.
