No conventions. However, I do have a Megathron Navy Issue named "Space is a Jungle".

For example i name all my drakes "Saphiros". At the end i put a Roman numeral and rise it, if i lost my previous one or buy another Drake. Thus it resembles to for example " Saphiros IV "

I do something similar with my Drakes. I think the Drake resembles a spider. Its got a large ass like a spider does. Said ass contains the launchers which spew out the missiles. Not unlike the irritating hairs that tarantulas flick off of their abdomens. In the middle of the front face of the Drake are two bulges that look like a spider's fangs. It sort of has four protrusions on each side in front of the "abdomen" section, mirroring a spider's eight legs. So anyway I looked for cool spider-related names and came across the genus Theraphosa, which contains the giant "bird eating spiders". Theraphosa is apparently Greek for 'light beast', which works for the Drake seeing as how it spews orbs of light. I don't know how a spider got the name light beast. Maybe 'light' in this case refers to weight. I dunno. Whatever. I dropped the last 'a' to make it sound cooler and so my Drakes are named Theraphos III, Theraphos IV, etc...

Oh.. and I named my Mammoth and Hoarder 'Snuffleupagus' and 'Eeyore', respectively.

I name mine things like this : इस तरह (like this), because during battles the fleet commander says, "Target so and so..." Kinda hard for him/her to say, "Target इस तरह!" The fog of war.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

i was at first using a WW2 ship naming scheme using an appropriate name per class ie my harbinger was scharnhorst and my hyperion was yamato but i have since abandoned that and now designate my ships according to class cost and the number of that ship i own. examples being BCS-103 Hull No 001 being a Battleship, 103m price at purchase and its the first one i own, my rifters are 001-003 as i own 3 of them. Thats my naming scheme now, in a way its easier but also pretty unique

My vargur is named "empty spaces", my canes "Have a cigar", other ships have names like "Lucifer Sam", "The gnome" (tiny ships), "Crazy diamond" (my broadsword), Pigs on the wing, Brain Damage etc. Depends on the mood, the fit, and whatever name I think fits the ship.

The general theme is pretty obvious though :D

I use the method Ian M Banks uses in his Culture novels - The ships choose their own (often weird) names Cool

Believe in what they do, not what they say.

Herp Derp
Derpes
Derp

or

Namehere's Gallente (doesn't linked to actual ship class, race or pilot name - just to confuse people a bit)

These things are being blown up left and right - no point to spend time naming them.

Mammoth: Nostromo
Prowler: Sulaco
(+ roman lettering)

and

Nomad: Jackie Flash

:)

edit: Sorry, forgot there is a "Why?" as well :) All three are movie references actually, but for the Nomad it was because of the 'Jumping' capability. As ships are always female, Jack became Jackie...

Well, they oughta know what to do with them hogs out there for shure.

Pff, i got so many names its close to insanity..

vengeance: Black Chocolate / Charamel filling (Cause of color)
drake: i like turtles (mission T2rigged and tank ship) (Cause its all tank and no spank)
nightmare: Elmos street (does this need a reason??)
Abaddon: Fat Basterd (well, its a fat ship..)
Noctis: Gymnogyps ( Latin name for a California condor)
Orca: Free Willy (movie?)
Retrievers: Mineminemine or finding nemo (movie)

Transhers and other suicide frigates get names that resemble Japanse kamikaze pilots (cause i keep losing them)

Someone mentioned, that he modifies the name also depending on the fitting.

For me this is also true. If the ship in question has a special fitting, i will give the ship name some additional character like a ° or + or something else. Just in order to have a fast pick up in my hangars.

Achatos VI
Achatos V
Achatos VI
Achatos VII

Which one was the special fun-fight ship??? Therefore i modify it to for example Achatos VI °

But whatever special Characters have to be added, the "core naming scheme" remains.

I like to name my ships as offensively as possible.

For example, all my bombers are named "Enola Gay"

My Hurricane is named "Katrina"

All of my ganking ships are named "UA Flight 175" or "AA Flight 11"

Various others (Not Offensive)

Tengu - Space Unicorn

Charon - Space Brick

Phantasm - Fish-head

Originally started playing during the '04 summer Olympics. Exclusively used names from Greek mythology which had something to do with the ship use and/or appearance. Many were later used by CCP as the names of actual ships. Always wondered if they were creeping me...

Oh, and my big-boob alts have ship names like "Brassiere" and "Stardust Mammaries." I feel no shame.

Target the Chinese character ship.

I name my ships all sorts of cutsie things. For example, my CEO really hates Cyclones for some reason, so I call my PVP one "Squee"

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

I normally use either nicknames or latin or famous ships names followed by roman numerals.

Tristan = Fatman VII
Crusader = Dawn II
Thorax = Dies Israe IV
Merlin = Devil's whore III
Maelstrom = Serenity I
Myrmidon = Nimitz II
Arbitrator = Solitude VI
