Do you have to mission with a certain faction or what?

There are 8 epic arcs in eve.

One beginner arc that's part of the tutorial stuff every new player is exposed to with their chosen faction ... ?aurora / aura being the starter agent. Not sure but suspect this one can be access with no standings requirements, and is available in every rookie system I have visited.

Then there is one lvl1 epic mission arc starting with sister alitura, SOE, in Arnon. It's called Blood-Stained Stars and you need to be able to access Sisters of Eve lvl1 agents to start.

Two lvl3 epic arcs. These are the two pirate arcs. One is with Angels, in Curse (NPC nullsec), and the other with Guristas in Venal (NPC nullsec). Each of these can be accessed via any of three different agents. To start these you need standard lvl3 agent access with the corps / factions of at least one of the starter agents.

There are also four lvl4 epi arcs. To access them you need standard lvl4 agent access with the relevant corp / faction.

To work out which corps / factions are involved (rather than me list them all here) you can read the eve wiki page on epic arcs - http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Epic_mission_arcs

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

yes you need a certain standing towards a npc corp or the faction

For the amarrian it is 6.5 standing for the ministry of internal order or faction standing

For the caldari is is standing with expert distributionn or faction standing

For the gallente it is Impetus or faction standing
and for the minmatar it is the brutor tribe

Each epic starts with their own special agent and you can redo the epic arc every 3 months

But be carefull some of the missions you get are pretty hard if you are new to lvl 4 mission running
use this link as a guide to get you started

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

Perhaps that is what it used to be but the access requirements now are standard lvl4 agent requirements: +5 or better with relevant corp or faction providing also that neither that corp nor faction is worse than -2.

Ditto for the lvl3 arcs: +3 or better with relevant corp or faction providing also that neither that corp nor faction is worse than -2.

Jowen Datloran's guide is pretty damn good:

They are ... but not as good for the pirate arcs as our uber-products :-)

If you're looking at running either / both pirate arcs then do give some serious thought to our (commercial) packages. They really are very good, and very affordable.
