Auto Cycling Dscan

Ok now we have auto cycling system scanner, it is time for CCP to finally implement an auto cycling dscaner. This is one of the most boring and repetitive tasks in eve having to constantly click the scan button every couple of seconds.

The drawback to having the dscan set to cycle automatically could perhaps be a delay between scans if this would be deemed necessary. But I'm just wondering from CCP if this is going to be implemented soon, and how long would it take to code?

I say make auto-scan a toggle-able feature, like object tracking is on there now.. I like being able to take snapshots of the surrounding area, and pick through at leisure while cloaked.

For flying around a system or running sites, you'd want it auto-cycling. For sitting between gates trying to catch people, you'd want snapshots. Ditto for inspecting crowded belts in highsec.

Also, features and ideas is thatawaty. ====>

In addition to coding, there's the question of server load (remember why d-scan got its current delay in the first place). Would the hisec pve enthusiast, resource harvester or the autopiloting hauler need to query the server for d-scan data every other second? Nope, but if it were made automatic, every single undocked character would in effect be spamming d-scan 23/7 from a load standpoint -.-

i just locked an open door.. strange, yet symbolically compelling.

Ottersmacker there would be an option to turn it on and off, so anyone who doesn't use it wouldn't be spamming it constantly. Having said that you're probably still right, it'll lead to an increased server load for sure. I think from a coding standpoint it would be very easy to do, but the question is whether or not we really even need it.

That is true. I wonder if this is an issue which is currently preventing this being implemented. Perhaps if it were an optional thing, ie you would have to activate each time after undocking, and the delay was something reasonable such as 20 seconds, then perhaps it would not put too much load on the server.

It seems this is the way forward though, if CCP has done it with system scan, then hopefully it will be possible with dscan soon.

Hello, I'm a carebear, and I can't tolerate to be threatened in null sec and low sec !

As the local isn't enough for me, I request to also have an automatic D-scan, so that it ruins any chances to have unconsensual pvp with me !
This way I can kill already-fragile features like bountyhunting or pvp, and overall kill one of the pvp-side of the game !

I would also love to see a flashing red light to warn me if any ship appears on my D-scan, to make sure that I have no chances to miss anything. And an audio buzz, because eh, I can't see a light when I'm not in front of my screen !

Thank you !

So to summarise, your qqing because you wont be able to gank noobs? Anyone half decent will spot you on dscan by manual clicking anyway. This just takes the tedium for those more skilled players out of the game, whereas noobs will still probably not realise they should be using dscan.

So don't worry you'll still get your easy noob kills as you do now so you can feel some self worth. I know how much the Test whelps rely on easy kills and will probably cry and rage quit if they are taken away, much like taking away lvl 4s from a high sec carebear.

Nope Altrue is right, you got ganked and now you're blaming CCP for your failure.

You forgot to add that it needs to text you and also leave an automated message on your home phone that alerts you also... CCP Guard, get onto recording that automated message please.

To be honest, I will be surprised if it won't be automated. CCP has stated that they want to get rid of mechanics where the user is fighting the interface instead of real opponents, so automating it will be the next logical step.

I was thinking of a method such as this for it to work.

1. 360 degree auto scan with a max range of 10au, cycles every ten seconds or such.

2. Area scan, auto scan of a 90 degree area with a maximum range of 14au.

3. Pinpoint scan, focused auto scan of a 5 degree area with a 20au maximum range.

The details can be adjusted, but I think the idea would perhaps make the mechanics a little more interesting as the user has a choice. If they are smart and know the direction their enemy would approach, then they get a longer range scan. It would take away the fighting with the interface, and allow you to actually make decisions to give you the edge on opponents.

Helloo I'm a typical GD poster. I think current probing is hard and tedious and people complaining about it being dumbed down in odyssey are bad for supporting tedious gameplay, buuuuuut dscanning on something that looks like its from the 1980s, randomly sticks to the mouse pointer and zooms around the screen on the 100000th click, collapses periodcally into a bar, and freezes up for no reason is great gameplay.
