went to engage pirate in a small plex with destroyer and was easily handled. Was wondering If there is a counter to a hawk that can fit into a plex. seems like nothing destroyer or frig size can give enough damage and dictate range. hawk with dual msb sram web afterburner already in a small is baffling me right now. Kiting is not an option because you are locked down before you can gain range and a destroyer can't dictate range on it. Is the best thing just don't warp into plex that has hawk in it?

thx for advice and help.

I have killed them in a AB, scram, web brick Algos. Nos and RAH work well if you can keep in range.

I expect Ishkur also would be a good bet.

LIght Missile Hookbill.

Most people fit for the highest dps number in fitting screen which means they have short range weapons so you can kite 90% of their fits.

If coercer engage this thing he proably die. Not rare in FW.

Coercer do 250 dps at 15km with overheating.110 dps pass through tank.
Hawk 7500/110= 68 sec before it die.
coercer 5800/145=40sec (2 HS +DC in low slots)

HP loss rate not good for coercer.

Don't judge who will win a 1v1 from fitting screens/apps/stats.

There is a lot more involved than a who has bigger numbers to determine who will win.
Pilot skill and knowledge usually wins fight. (or an ECM alt but I don't know anybody who uses those) Big smile

curious that you said the algos cause i considered that but figured the high therm resists of the hawk would negate it's gun damage but guess you can use warriors and hit it's second resist.

the coercer seems like a bad choice because with no mids it has no chance of dictating range but maybe if it can kill it it would be able to pop it before the hawk abs away and warps off.

Any thoughs on some unconventional fits.. e.g 10mn arty thrasher or even a 10mn ac thrasher with 200mm plate because it could probably dictate range and the minmatar does the most pure em dmg.

Also i really appreciate all the constructive feed back ... (sniffle) i love you guys :)

A Vengeance could quite easily tank a Hawk but is too slow to stop it burning away and warping once he runs out of boosters for his MASBs, unless of course the pilot is a baddie.

10MN Thrasher would be my first choice.

1550m/s / 2165 m/s overloaded, 378 dps with heat, should tank enough to burn him down first but if not it's a cheap loss :P

[Thrasher]

[High Slots]
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S
200mm AutoCannon II - Republic Fleet EMP S

[Med Slots]
10MN Afterburner II
Warp Disruptor II
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I

[Low Slots]
Gyrostabilizer II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer - Nanite Repair Paste

[Rigs]
Small Ancillary Current Router I
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I
Small Anti-Kinetic Pump I

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

I don't have eft on this computer but my first thought was to wonder if a talwar can alpha past the shield booster. I think it can.

I'll check it out later on but I tihnk a Hawk pilot would poop himself if you shot him into armor on the first shot.

Anyone try this?

Not quite true.

1. Do not fit velocity reducing armor rigs
2. Stay as close as you can for as long as you can.
3. Watch for his overloaded AB, react quickly to overload yours.
4. If there is a chance you think he's going to get away, offline your plate if you don't need it.
5. Overload tackle if he begins to drift towards the max range of it. A lot of the time his web will shut off because he didn't.
6. Dual rep vengeance is terrible for solo vs solo AF fights, use a hybrid tank and fit a 60% web.

are you sure a thrasher cant kill it?

two gyros and a rig, shield buffer with mse, AB for improving tracking - its pretty nasty and gets over 400 dps with heat

I'm quoting myself... how weird is that?

I did a 5 min EFT quick check on this and I think my money would be on the Hawk in Hawk vs. Talwar. The Talwar's alpha is very impressive but not enough to push through the Hawk's shields with one shot. I came up with the idea originally because we sometimes use them 50 at a time for OMGWTFLOL alpha snipers that are very maneuverable. 60k alpha hurts.... Against Tornados that 3-4 Tornados down for every Talwar..... but that's a 0.0 doctrine. 1:1 against an assaut frigate though... meh. against armor frigates with shorter range... sure, but not against the Hawk.

I can also confirm from experience the the Enyo isn't what you want Oops I think you may find all of the turret boats a little lacking in a straight up slug fest with a hawk, especially the armor ones. Success will depend upon having web/scram and neut. The wolf, for example, does WAY more damage than the Hawk and it will win every time *if* you can get in and sit on his neck.... but if the Hawk is able to kite then you're in trouble.

so thinking out of the box, I thought about using the flycatcher to force it into web range using remote sensor damps but the hawk's sensors are too good. That won't work.

My next out of the box plan would be to consider looking for a ship with a little ECM surprise. The problem will be finding one that can neut at the same time as web, point and jam and hold on while you wait for the hawk to cap out. I'm pretty sure one of the pirate frigs can do that. That said, one of the pirate frigs will win outright from a hawk in a chin-on-chin fight too. Dunno if you want to put that much money into getting your revenge.

Either way, your enemy has made a wise choice of ships. From the bit of looking into it I've done I'd say the Hawk must be an outstanding 1:1 dog-fighter against similar sized ships.

If you have good skills in gunnery and can fly jaguar, you could try this fit

[Jaguar, DA Jag]

Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Damage Control II

1MN Afterburner II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator
Medium Shield Extender II

150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
150mm Light AutoCannon II, Republic Fleet EMP S
Small Energy Neutralizer II

Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I

It can kill dual MASB hawk, but you have to overheat everything. You have to drop neut/nos if you don't have genolution CA-1 and CA-2.

I'd say a Coercer with only a Damage Control for tank would only be able to win that if he could use short range ammo. To be able to do that you need range control. chatgris flies 10MN AB Coercers so that shouldn't be a problem. 1MN fits would likely die to that Hawk though.

Forgot the obvious answer.

Best way to beat a solo Hawk is with 2 solo Hawks.
