I was thinking we could have a thread with hardware and distributions that works for EVE. Mainly for those people running windows who wonders if their computers can do Linux, but sure, also a bit of hardware bragging Smile

Belkin Nostromo n52 (with pystromo)

Debian 7 (wheezy) 64-bit

My hardware is a few years old, but I followed the instructions at Winehq and here and have no major problems to report.

AMD Phenom II x4 955
Asus M4A79T motherboard
4G
Evga GeForce GTX460 1024MB

Slackware64 14.0
Nvidia driver 319.17
Wine 1.5.30

I have a fruit cup and I'm not afraid to use it.

I am pretty sure that the distribution is not a factor, really. ;)

Anyways:

Gentoo, Wine 1.5.30
AMD FX 6200
Asrock 970 Extreme 4
8GiB RAM
Powercolor Radeon 7950 V2

works like a charm

Gentoo, Wine 1.5.30
AMD Athlon X2 5600+
Asus M2N-E Sli
8GiB RAM
Asus ENGTX 260

runs quite ok, with a few performance issues in certain cases.

Just wanted to be super extra clear for those who never have touched Linux before. To point out that there's more possibilities than just one or two.

Well, looks like I'm a member of the Mac and the Linux EVE community. Just got EVE working on an old Compaq CQ60-420us..

Specs:
Duel-Core Intel Centerino
3 gig of RAM
Intel G45 graphics card.. (talk about a laugh, but the thing bloody works, lowest graphics)

OS: Gentoo Linux x64 with LXDE as the WM and Wine 1.5.30 with the Intel Mesa drivers.
pretty much followed the EvE Wiki on Linux. Once loaded, I had no textures. After a bunch of research, I found that I needed to emerge libtxc_dxtn. Once that was done. game works.. the best it can on this crappy "onboard" video.

between 15 to 20 FPS.. not pretty but enough to hop gates really quick. no fleeting with this thing.

Got it running on:

Manjaro XFCE 0.8.5
Asus P8-P67 Pro
Intel Core i7-2600
Gigabyte Geforce 580GTX GV-N580UD-15I
NVIDIA Driver 319.17

But not really a success story. The graphics card required me to reflash it with a new BIOS, otherwise EVE would crash. Unfortunately this is a very common problem with the Gigabyte 570 and 580 series graphics card, so avoid those.

Kubuntu 12.04 LTS
Asus M3A
Phenom X4 9650 (yup - THAT ancient)
4GB DDR2
Gainward GeForce GTX560Ti
NVIDIA driver 310.14
Wine 1.5.30

Besides CQ, everything works well.

MSI P7N Diamond
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
8GB DDR2
ASUS GeForce GTX560Ti
NVIDIA driver 319.17
Wine 1.5.26

Works perfect (except captains quarters).

Debian wheezy
Amd 4850e dual core, 2.5GHz
8GB
Nvidia 8800GT
2 24" monitors
wine 1.4

This runs ok'ish for 2 clients at low gfx quality. No crashes for some time now.
I do use some scripts with library overrides to get things running smoothly.
And yup, things are starting to get a bit old...

Ubuntu (LXDE and XFCE) 10.10 - 13.10, now using XUbuntu 12.04 LTS
Pentium D930 + i945 chipset, -> AMD FX4100 and later FX 8350 on 990FX chipset
ATi Radeon HD 6750 -> 5870 -> and now 7750
2 monitors (19" and 24") with xinerama,
small and cheap 64GB SSD for games (EVE and WoW, fast re-draw after jump/bridge, less delays)

works fine for 2+ years, 2-3 EVE clients simultaneously, no crashes for long time (for example: usual crash on windows - jump through gate and disconnect - I saw that many times in fleets last year)
have some issues (solved) with ati-amd catalyst drivers versions on old card (5870) and cpu perfomance, but now on xubuntu 12.04 HD 7750 + FX-8350 everything perfect with latest drivers from ubuntu repositories.

Using native Mumble and TS3 clients. Succesfully tuned Teamspeak3 overlay with xosd-bin lua plugin, using Pyfa for ship fitting simulation, GTKEveMon to check skill queue (and Aura on android). Tested several screen-cast programs like Kazam, RecordMyDesktop, Screencastor

I have no dual-boot partition with windows - everything I need I can do in Linux

Archlinux
Kernel 3.9.2-2-ck x86_64
Intel Core i7 CPU Q 720
8G DDR3 1333
NVIDIA GT 335M (with driver 319.17)
wine 1.5.30
Awesome and GNOME 3
EVE has a separate RAID0 partition.

Works well, except CQ and IGB.

Please do this to run without launcher:
# tl;dr: Finally, new batch files to launch the exefile directly:
/usr/bin/env WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.wine" DISPLAY=":0.0" /usr/bin/aoss wine explorer /desktop=eve1,1024x768 "C:\Games\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe"
#And to do a second instance:
/usr/bin/env WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.wine" DISPLAY=":0.0" /usr/bin/aoss wine explorer /desktop=eve1,1024x768 "C:\Games\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe"

BTW, I'm on ubuntu 12.0.4, wine 1.5.29, works pretty darn well.
