Which names are you choosing for your ships and why?

Only ship I have renamed is my dominix, and renamed it to fat brick, because, lets face it, dominix's dont like to move, they like to sit still and let the drones do the work.

in a WH corp i was in, we used to have a sentence made with our ships when you see them on directional an it's to late like:
1. guy -> surprise
2. guy -> butt
3. guy -> sex
4. guy -> is
5. guy -> comming

Scouts are sometimes named after Stations like J125354 I - Moon 1 or **** like that

I usually use references to other fictional starships, or AI characters, though there are some exceptions. Some have names that enable a certain progression:

Rifters are named (First to Seventh) Samurai, escalating when it gets destroyed. I'm currently on Third Samurai.
Blackbird's named Ace of Spades; if I ever get a second or more, those will be Two of Spades, etc.
Hurricane is Ace of Hearts; same progression as the Blackbird.

The exceptions are Last of the Brave (Tristan), the Rifter series, Repeat Four (Stabber), Valiance 404 (Condor), Xari Li Soon (Badger), Arqenaut (Osprey)..and I think my Cormorant, but I can't remember what its name actually is.

The card-based names are technically exceptions, but they are based on logical extrapolation from King of Hearts, which was of a mass-produced ship class and thus presumably has similarly-themed sister ships.

EDIT: Cormorant is named after a ship from Schlock Mercenary and is thus not an exception

I name most of mine after insects and use aliterations. (mostly in German)

Like:
Hungrige Hornisse (Hungry Hornet)
Mieser Maikäfer
Stille Stechmücke
etc...

Except for my stealth bomber, which is named Safer Sex.

I name my ships either Whitney or Merissa.

Why? Because a guy in my corp has 2 hot sisters.

Any guesses as to what their names are? Lol

My drakes are named in accordance with the number of solokills they have achieved.

Once it reaches a suitable level it is promoted to MEGADRAKE.

Sadly I'm currently flying a drake called 0.

Never noticed a pattern till I actually wrote them all out, seems most of my ships are inspired by mythology and I tend to use two word names for non-combat ships.

I've barely started to explore the possibilities, but an organization is already emerging. Shuttles are all named after cars: Mustang, Comet, TT. My Tristan is Isolde's Sorrow, future iterations might include Mark's Revenge and Romeo's Haste. My first indie Iteron stole a page from Traveller by utilizing the reverse epithet with Bard Invictus, an homage to Vengeance Rising, and Andromeda Ascendant. I have several Navitas which seemed to all end up named like boats at the marina: Gold Watch, Lakely Suspect, Kid's Inheritence, etc.

My Gila: DC-0812 "Maurasi". Tengu used to be called STC-000 "Mushikegi", then it died.

I tend to give my ships weird numerical designations followed by a name in quotes for some reason. Tends to be a system or constellation name controlled by the faction that the ship is. Exception being Gila as the last time I checked Maurasi was not Gurista controlled. :v

All of my stabbers are named Cklrtman.

Totally naming my Naga once it comes out Nagamanen.

I also have a vexor I named Oxidized Lead Spoon.

Well I have this list of 2600 shot names I'm working through. Latest ship is 358 magnum, its not bad either........

I'm a crazy military history buff so I name my ships after a lot of battles and locations - Midway, Ardennes, Valley Forge, St. Mere Eglise, Saratoga, Leyte Gulf, ect.

The sole exception to this is Noctis's - I called one Lilacs and Roses just to annoy my male corp mates!

After something special happens with it, or after its use.

I named my favorite Thrasher 'Luck Pusher' after I was the only one in my gang to escape an ambush.

Named my Cane 'Scherzo' (musical joke) because its first use was as a RR platform. (don't ask)

My blockade-runner Rifter is called the 'Gate Grazer'

And my Maelstrom is the 'Storm's Eye' because the first 4 Incursion sites I ran, the rats never targeted me. :P

I use to name them after the ships characteristics, or the first thing that pops into my head when looking at it.
Lately started to give them Japanese names..

Edit: Wonder what I'd name the Revenant if I ever had one.. hm.
