Fix what exactly? It isn't happening to many people because there is a specific problem CCP just refuses to fix. It's happening because it's a generic error message, that can be caused by almost anything. It basicly just means there was an issue with the connection. On it's own it's useless and doesn't tell you anything what could be causing the issue in any individul case.

Fix what ever is causing the problem. I have no issues with any other games my internet works fine. So even if the problem is being caused by my ISP- eve devs should fix the way their game is interacting with my ISP.

If my pc and isp can can run any other game the problem lies with EVE, simple as that.

ANY other game? Do you mean you've tried them all or that the one other game you've tried worked fine?

Without having any idea what the problem is how can you possibly decide that it's CCP's responsibility? Shocked

It's actually quite legitimate that sometimes CCP might be able to do something about things like this - some emails, some telephone calls, maybe a meeting, and it can be sorted out.

Who knows whether this current bout of glitches is one of those cases though, I don't.

Wanna tell me how the **** some game devs are supposed to fix a problem that could result from any number of causes that they have absolutely no control over?

And every other game you play... are the servers located in the same location as CCPs?
Do your packets take the same route, through the same backbones, owned by the same tier 1s, with the same peering arrangements, as they do when going to Eve?

No?

Not exactly relevant, then.

Okay, let me use a simple analogy here:

You buy a new car and it runs great.
Then, one day, you accidently pump the wrong fuel and the car breaks down.

What will you do? Will you change the fuel you use or will you ask the car manufacturer to make the car work with the bad fuel simply because "I am the customer and I will choose who is responsible myself"?

Better, I think: You buy a new car and it runs great. While driving down the road one day, you come to a river crossing and the bridge is out. You send a nastygram to the car manufacturer and insist that they do something about the bridge.

You never have this problem while driving your other cars to other places. Still an imperfect analogy, but yeah, expecting CCP to fix any and all transit issues is exactly this stupid.

Well said.

Of course asking never hurts and CCP might try to help you pinpoint the problem, if you ask nicely via petition.
At least I received some really helpful replies from a GM when I had this issue.

Okay, I'm going to bite on this one:

What exactly do you expect CCP to do?

What everyone who has these issues expects CCP to do is make Eve less sensitive to internet issues. We all know its possible because other games are not so sensitive.

"If architects built buildings the way programmers wrote code, one woodpecker would destroy civilization."

And that is what CCP has done. They have written client and server code that cannot deal with problems. We want them to write proper code, just like other game writers.

Last time I helped someone with this problem it turned out to be their ISP used traffic management and had wrongly labelled Eve as a P2P application. Another one I remember was a misconfigured tunnel to a peer - it was ten times smaller than it should have been.

I'm another who is going to say that you need to talk to your ISP.

There is nothing wrong with CCPs (or L3 London) routing that I can see from here, certainly no route flapping.

Hello,

There is a fairly helpful program called "3D Traceroute".
It is very easy to pin-point ISP related issues with this tool. You should give it a try!

Good luck with your connection,

Thanks for all you comments.

Some helpful and some about as good as my EVE connection atm. I have reset my modem/router and contacted my ISP. I have used Pingtracer etc and re-installed my entire client again. Logged in again this morning and within 2 minutes my account crashed with the same bloody error.

So, please excuse my bitterness and snappy replies to peeps trying to help out but i have not received a reply from my petition i sent 6 days ago to CCP and after doing everything i now know to fix the problem, am about to smash my computer and peripherals and go back to playing outside like we used to do before the interweb.

I will, however, check this post from time to time just in case a lvl 90 wizard has found a spell to fix my Game.

That is all. Ugh

How ironic.

The only thing i have heard from the game REPS in the last week is not to make up words with numbers And symbols to cover how greatly upset i am.<- INSERT CURSE WORDS THERE. Nice work.

At this point, after several years of this error popping up, one would think: "what about adding some description or exact error code (i.e. he underlying Windows API error) so that players and CCP can pinpoint those general issues into specific issues? And maybe discern the possible game bugs from players side issues?

No, it's too easy. Let's leave a catch-all general error and leave the players to create threadnoughts that are never answered!
