Shield-trained looking for ideas for PVP fits

Howdy! I'm pretty much a mission-running carebear. But a friend of mine wants me to tag along for some PVP in the next few weeks. We'll get blown up a lot (will be getting an implant-poor jump clone), but my main problem is that all my training is for shield+missile boats and mining...not often the best background for small-gang PVP. He said to just grab a basic-fit cruiser and come on out, but my reading tells me that what I can field won't be too efficient.
Question: What shield-based cruiser would be the quickest to train weapons into and be at least "okay" for some PVP fun? Or, can I get away with a missile boat? Battleclinic links, fits, or just hints will be appreciated, but I'm most interested in what skills I need to train (assume shielding/speed/missiles/and such are well-trained already).

Carcal with assault missle lunchers. There is always the drake that is a pretty good pvp BC on nearly all scales, T2 rigs to taste.

I'm assuming you want to risk as little isk as possible. In your case i'd get a bunch of kestrels and caracals.

May I suggest that if you have little or no PvP experience you do not fly the nano Drake...which actually takes some finesse to fly right (as do most nano-ships)... additionally there is really no point in putting a small neut on a ship with 2 webs...any frig you try to neut will be dead in 2 missile volleys once you get 2 webs on it, you are better off with a drone link augmenter...but anyhoo we are not talking about Nano-Drake fittings...

If you have to have a cruiser hull I would go with the Caracal if you are all missiles. Either Anti-Frig/Dessy fit or long range support fit. These fits are optimized for price...(cheap rigs)...and assume you are not solo. With the Heavy Missile fit...you warp in at range (70km) and shoot the primary...align out...if anything gets too close (35km) warp out...rinse and repeat. With the AML fit stay with the fleet. Kill anything smaller than a cruiser.

For starters I just want to say whoever put post right next to reply should be shot(InGame). I just messed up twice on the same post Evil

If you're interested in cross training you could try the Shield/nano tanked Omen which works quite well. Or if you are interested in ACs you could train for a sleip/Cyclone because they are simply awesome ships for fighting against odds and coming out on top.

Let me assist if I can. When you're in battle and getting pounded, resist the temptation to think that is the moment you started losing the fight. Getting into a fight and NOT panicking is where it's at. Good luck, and no matter your tank, you can still bring lots o' gank!
Always ... Never ... Forget to check your references.   Peace out Zulu! Hope you land well!

Missiles are fine for PvP, I have 20m sp in guns and I probably only use gun boats a couple times a month.
Frig killing caracal would be a good place to start. go after frig hulls and stay away from most everything else.

Caldari pilot?

You have three good options:

1) HAM Drake
2) Stealth bomber (Manticore = best SB in the game)
3) ECM (Blackbird into Falcon)

Let me amend that...

1) HAM Drake
1.1) HML Nano Drake
1.2) HML Heavy Drake

2) Stealth bomber (Manticore = best SB in the game) - Meh
2.1) Hookbill
2.2) Crow

3) ECM (Blackbird into Falcon)
3.1) Caracal (Best Anti-Frig platform in the game...beaten only by the Caracal Navy Issue)
3.2) Basilisk (Shield-Guardian)

So when one reply suggests a nano Drake, you recommend against it for the OP. And when I reply with a list of recommended ships for the OP, you amend the list to include a nano drake.

Your repply indicated thatthose were the only 3-4 good pvp ships available to a Caldari pilot..maybe I misinterprted....don't tale it so personal. TheOP should still stick with a caracal

Better (read: Much cheaper!) HM/Nano-Drake:

Dual-web, still-decently-tanky Kite-fighter

LO

2x BCU II
2x Nanofibre Internal Structure II

MID

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon MWD
Warp Disruptor II
2x Stasis Webifier II
Large Shield Extender II
Invulnerability Field II

HI

7x Heavy Missile Launcher II
1x Medium Energy Neutarliser (probably the meta 4 one whose name I can never remember, CPU will be an issue for fitting)

RIG

1x Ancillary Current Router (gives enough grid to fit the medium neut)
1x EM resist rig
1x Thermal resist rig

DRONES

5x Warrior II
(or maybe 5x Hornet EC-300 ECM drones)

Get those fitting and ship-speed/agility skills up if you haven't already, and train Battlecruisers to 5, that latter is one of the most useful ship skills in the game.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

Another race's cruiser and cruiser turrets will take at most a few weeks to train and it's well worth it when twice as many ships are opened up to you.
