Fit a cargo scanner. You'd be surprised at what some of these freighters are carrying.

The next step is wanting to have those contents for yourself.

The step after that I'll leave as an exercise for the reader.

cannot agree more: it's better to stop on step 0 "Watching flying freighters" Lol

Sometimes I just pick a courier contract at random and do it, not because it gives a good reward or I enjoy flying 31 jumps in a freighter, but just for the feeling that I'm doing my little part in taking some goods from Jita to another part of the universe where they will be sold or used to build something important. Makes me feel like the cog in a huge machine.
This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.  Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless

You're wrong, this type of situation happens out in 0.0 during forced evacs. I know, I've been part of it in the past.

Hostile fleets running interference while your other half of fleet covers the station and gates; alliance freighters loaded up and warping to POS for titan bridge evacs... so yeah, people do undock full freighters into hostile fleets on grid.

Idea

yeah, but the thing in the video shows no defense fleet, with an attacking fleet, and 2-3 freighters.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Agreed.

I love sending 50 freighter loads of minerals to a courier company. I just imagine the poor peasants hauling load after load after load in a slow freighter Twisted

Also, yes, freighters are just about the coolest thing ever to a new player, logistic fleets definitely should have a place in trailers!

They do, usually right in the middle of a fleet fight and it never made much sense. Go back and watch some of the many cinematic trailers. Titans, Super Carriers, a hundred Abaddon Battle Ships and a Providence freighter, wait what?

"I was there" (Incarna) trailer.

Trouble with the cinematic trailers is that you see people doing stuff that would never actually happen in EVE (e.g. undocking a freighter in the midst of an enemy battle-group). The trailer would've been better if they started it off as the freighter was greenlighted to leave, and then a few blops cyno'd in, followed by the rest of the "Gallente" side (i.e. the fleet the narrator was in), sorta like the Dominion trailer.

Agreed. Instead of the big overwhelming space epic, some footage of smaller, more mundane things. High speed rifter vs. incursus fight. A smart bomb destroying a hoard of drones. Going from the probing globe-grids in space view to warping to a wormhole. Massive freighters traffic. That kind of stuff is as interesting as the big space battle stuff to me.

It is so cool being able to sit outside a trade hub and watch dozens of enormous freighters hauling goods all over new eden to either be sold on distant markets ive never been to or used to build the very ships I fly. It is amazing to me to be able to literally watch eve's bustling economy in such a way. I often undock to go mine or do missions and find myself getting side tracked for 10 to 15 minutes at a time watching these huge freighters slowly heading off all over the universe. Does this amaze anyone else or am I the only person who finds this fascinating?

All you need now is a Tornado fleet with high alpha DPS and cargo scanners

Before i left eve for a long period of time i remember exploring low sec for the first time when a large logistics fleet was heading through the pipe to high sec. It consisted of 20 or more freighters and what seemed like a hundred escort ships. Was totally ******* cool coming across that. Those days are long gone though unfortunately, **** jump freighters.
