Some of my CAS buddies as well as the what, two dozen people reading my rare tweets knows I got a new job recently. 7 weeks of training, which I'm glad for because the company I'm gonna be teching for uses different programs for troubleshooting. Thank God it's the same type of service connection I'm used to fixing.

Most of my class is made up of people who've either worked with me before (painting my previous employer in a very flattering light) or are otherwise new to tech support and are learning how to do the job. Except one guy. Let's call him Jack for the purpose of this thread.

Jack is a walking oxymoron. He claims he's worked with computers since the 80s, but gets frustrated when a website we need to read for class won't load in three seconds. He says that he designed a troubleshooting program for a company he worked for in the 90s, yet doesn't understand why he has to learn what the tools he needs for this job do. He complains that the trainer is too soft-spoken for him to understand, yet won't shut up when she's talking. It got to a point where we took our end-of-week exam on Friday, and while most of us either finished in an hour or spent as much time as we needed to studying and rethinking our answers before we submitted them, he yells out 'HELP!' like he's seeing someone collapsed on the sidewalk just because the testing site was having some technical difficulties.

Honestly, I'm hoping this guy gets cut very, very badly. Someone who's that much of an egotist and a spoiled brat should look into another line of work, because if his attitude is this disruptive as far as the training class go, I wouldn't even wish him on one of the abusive customers in a Not Always Right story.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

I work with a guy that just because he found out about Ophcrack, he considers himself a hacker and tech support specialist ... he talks loud about his problems and how he knows about everything and ... ugh, yes I know the feeling obnoxious louts give to everyone around themX

I dunno... I've MET the 'Coffee Cup Holder' guy. And I've met the guy who told the client to box their system up and send it back because they were too stupid to own a computer (and got fired for it).

There are a very few customers who just need to be paired with a sadistic egoist.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Sounds like a variation of the one up guys. One of them is very annoying, but we found its very entertaining when you get 2 of them and pair them up.

Update:

I think he's starting to realize that everyone in the training class is starting to get irritated with his attitude, because he's been keeping to himself more and more. The girl sitting next to him (who, in my opinion, should be nominated for sainthood just from managing to sit that close to him without snapping off at him) noticed that he's starting to pay more and more attention to the lessons, and he's even making an effort to talk about something other than himself. Looks like it's causing him mental pain, too.

Pfft, I'll believe he's starting to reform when he actually starts helping the trainees sitting near him.
