Let's be a little bit curious: How do you name your ships and why?

I personally like it to use the names of semi-precious stones with a little modification. For example i name all my drakes "Saphiros". At the end i put a Roman numeral and rise it, if i lost my previous one or buy another Drake. Thus it resembles to for example " Saphiros IV "

Famous historical or mythological weapons and mythological creatures. Or just the name of the hull when I'm feeling lazy. Same loadouts get roman numerals.

I named my Drake Slowpoke since it's slow and lazy (and i secretly want it to be pink).

Don't wory only caldari and galente ships get the pokemon treatment.
Other than that i name after their look.

I use a four-letter abbreviation that tells me the fit (makes life easier when you have 20 Incursuses and 20 Vexors for different purposes in the hangar), followed by a proper name;

Incursuses are named after the knights of the Round Table (the lance, get it)
Vexors according to maori gods (Vexor face reminds me of maori tattoos)
Myrmidons are latin names of sea horses
Dominixes are synonyms of power and that sort of DOMINATING stuff

Other ships are more random as I don't have piles of them, but I like to have a naming convention for the bread & butter ships.

I like using latin words

Like Apocrypphacryppha

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

I am all over the place with the names of my ships but, generally, go for something amusing, like my Obelisk is named Badonkadonk.
But, my POSes are themed. Each POSes mods are named after the characters and places in different SciFi shows. One is for Star Wars, one for Star Trek, one for Firefly, etc.

I name them on a whim when I assemble the ship.

My Thanatos is named Pale Horse
I have a mammoth named Not Empty Quotin
My Hound is named Cerberus and my Cerberus is named Dog of War

I have a hurricane named Nemesis and another named Blunderbuss, and a Drake named Avante.

Somewhere I have a thrasher named Devil's Daughter.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

name of the hull

if people use dscan they see the name of the hull anyways, trying to fool them may be amusing but is imo pointless.

Usually I name my ship whatever the hull is.

I name my drakes 'Wednesday'

Canes I usually name 'slick'

Myrmidon I call bastard because I usually fit autocannons on it, but lately my gallente boats are all named 'winter's coming'

No set in stone methodology.

I have a Tengu named Windowlicker, because herp missile spam.

But then I have a Kronos named Ignie Ferroque (Fire and Sword).

And there's the Phobos I named Joy Toy (because pod-mails are gonna show implants, squeeeee!).

A nemesis named 'Squinty'. Don't ask. I said don't.

Really it boils down to a name that amuses me, and may or may not reference something about the ship itself.

This is a fun subject.

I tend to name Haulers and Barges after Dave Matthews Band songs (don't know why) examples like

IG-Still Water
IG-The Maker
IG-Everyday

Combat Vessesl get harsher names

My WH Abaddon is named IG-Fist of God and before that my WH Armageddon was called IG-Bonecrusher before its untimely demise at the hands of a Zealot. I have a K-space Geddon called Creeping Death as well that is the first and only BS I bought. I usually build them now if I can.

The newest addition to my personal fleet is a Bhaalgorn named Diabolus Meretricis (Latin for Devil's Whore)

I usually put IG- in front of my ships to to denote that they are mine, it gets a little confusing in ship arrays in WHs if I don't.

i used to name ships after real world warships/warship classes,

destroyers: Arleigh Burke, Fletcher for my corms
Cruisers: Ticonderoga

also named ships after famous battles in history
Thermopylae and Marathin.

generally i like to make warships sound fierce and badass
