Perhaps you could use this spark of curiosity to investigate why people naturally gravitate towards trade hubs. Who knows, you might learn something new you can then share with the rest of the class.

If you don't like TiDi then maybe you should try non-blob fights. I hear that when you don't flood a system with movement, module activations, EWar effects, missile flights, and gun fire that has to be sent to each of the 750 people on grid, things work better.

Single shard is fine. It's the edge cases where things need to be given some special attention. Even the MMOs that run shards tend to start breaking down with 100-some people in a single area, and they don't even have to worry about half the things that Eve does.

Bitching about what Eve is capable of is like saying, "Man, I had open heart surgery and I'm still alive but I have this scar, open heart surgery is ********."

CCP proves daily that the single shard universe doesn't work.

It's a great idea in theory, but they cannot provide the hardware needed to handle the server load, and they cannot code efficiently enough to minimize the issues involved with an excessive number of players in some systems.

I was in a fleet fight the other day 750 in system, slideshow 75% tidi most of the fight.
The most amusing thing is that the Tidi followed us all the way back home, 10 jumps, 30 mins, 75% tidi all the way.
Is it my imagination, or is the hardware/code getting worse? Oops



It works, you just need to realise that it is not a normal thing. I don't see any other MMOs with a single shard universe and changing Eve would completely ruin the game. If you don't like it don't play.

The fact that EVE mech and meta only makes it more benefical to fight "general battles" like it is medevial times only makes the issue worse.

Not attacking CCP or anyone else, I'm sure everyone does their best. But it's just the way it is.

Both fine examples of why free transport and housing never works and makes things worse for everyone.
Put tolls on stargates and rent on stations and watch Jita fix itself overnight.

The very fact that we can have 3000 pilots in a fight says it does work.

I don't think it's your imagination.

We had a dozen ships bridge through a BLOPs the other day, and half couldn't get through due to traffic control.

This was a navigation bridge, but if we were bridging into a combat situation, the battle could have been lost, as the bridge was down when traffic control ended.

Tears will be shed and pants will need to be changed all round.

1) separate empire hisecs with lowsec
2) disable jump drives in hisec
3) introduce higher sales taxes in hisec, lower in lowsec, sov-holder collectable in null
4) introduce customs fees on empire border crossings for item quantities above personal use
5) add local manufacturing maluses to blueprints (Amarr ships cheaper to build in Amarr space etc, lower malus in lowsec, null and wormholes free of maluses)

-> suddenly interesting local markets and international trade and no more everyone and their mom squeezing into one stinking system

The hardware can sustain things "as designed", the problem comes in when you've got people jumping instead of bridging, and then 3,000 people show up to either whore on the KM, or try defending the lemming. That is, we take the improvements that CCP has designed into the system, and then push them to (and sometimes beyond) their limits.

take someone from 10 years ago and tell them we'll have battles of 250/side without black screens
take someone from 5 years ago and tell them we'll have battles of 1200/side without black screens
take someone from 6 months ago, and tell them we'll have a battle with ~3000 pilots IN LOWSEC, ON AN UN-HARDENED NODE

you'll get laughed at in every case.

personally i don't see "just fine" when you cannot enter some system in SINGLE UNIVERSE. TiDi is OK. But not message "you cannot enter system XXX. Choose another" (or how it is).

I remember days of old NC when they crashed nodes bringing all of their alts into sieged system to prevent enemies from entering. Looks like these days people can use the same tactics....
