Some meta 4 mods are actually better than T2 mods?

I see this in a lot of places. For example, Inertia Stabilizers... the meta 4 mod "Local Hull" is better than the T2 mod because it gives 8% Sig radius and -20% inertia modifier while the T2 mod gives 11% Sig radius and -20% inertia modifier. I am not 100% sure but I am 75% sure that more sig radius is bad, so the meta 4 mod is actually better to use in general, but if you're looking at the important stat which is inertia modifier, they are both equal.

Then the other thing that confuses me is that the market does not care about this difference. The Local Hulls sell for 20k per unit while T2 sells 730k per unit.

So my question is... can you explain this? Why would a meta 4 mod be better than a T2 mod? Why would CCP allow that? And lastly, why is the market like this?

Some m4 mods are indeed better than the T2 variant. Most people just assume T2 is better, which results in the market not caring one bit.


Edit; As to why they are better, only CCP can answer that.

Meta equipment cannot be created... only farmed from NPCs.

Tech 1 and Tech 2 equipment can be made anywhere... making it easy to produce in bulk quantities.


Meta equipment is sometimes nominally better in some ways but is supposed to be more "rare." However loot changes some time ago along with rampant mission running/ratting has produced a glut of them on the market.

Tech 2 equipment requires "invention" and moongoo... which automatically increases the production price of the product. I would not be surprised if Tech 2 Inertial Stabilizers are selling at a loss right now.

Correct Meta 4 can be better then T2.

But also WAY more expensive.

Some items were notorious for being better in meta 4 than t2: like armour plates, but t2 plates were given a buff recently which has made t2 marginally better. Other meta 4 items are better marginally than t2, and some are way better. But in most cases t2 is still better than named modules, especially when it comes to mods that are specifically boosted via skills in t2 such as turrets and missile launchers. Some named are popular as well as they are less skill intensive usually, same goes with faction mods. Though the latter is usually much more expensive than named mods. T2 is generally overall used because of it's bountifulness as well as it's balance of performance and rarity.

Yup. As said above...CAN be...which is why show info -> variations -> compare is handy to see what modules can do compared to other modules of it's purpose...

I've not updated the names in a long time, so some may be wrong after the meta module renaming. I also don't remember if anything changed after the armor plate changes, but at least this indicates the classes of modules that once had a better meta 4 as a starting point for further investigation:

On one hand you have the high requirements of T2 production. On the other hand you have the frequency of loot drops. Price is influenced by both the items statistics as it's rarity. It's entirely normal that a better quality product is cheaper then it's more baseline counterpart. I mean... people buy iPhones don't they? So why shouldn't they buy T2 Inertia Stabilizers?

Maybe you played WoW or something similar before and know a similar effect...
It was always assumed, that those purple epics are better than anything else. So you were thought to have less quality equipment with blues. That's what happens at the market...

A bit new to the game and a bit thankful I never enjoyed other MMOs or various games that required a steady grind to acquire items, or status.

Eve does have it's grind, but with a bit of effort you can shave some time from the grind simply by shopping around. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
