Skilling statistics

I can't explain my love for seeing some of the game's statistics, but I'm always curious to see how game changes relate to changes in behavior by the players. It's like a little mathematical peek into the collective mind of Eve's players.

In that vein, I'm really curious how many players who hadn't trained Battlecruisers V, Destroyers V, Command Ships, etc. hastily did so in preparation for the Odyssey changes. Did CCP move mountains in getting people to train those skills by warning them so far ahead of time how the changes would work, or did the majority of the playerbase just decide they had a skill plan already and would stick to their guns (some of them quite literally)?

most players are that dumb they couldn't understand the skill changes even after about 18 different explanations.

therefore the number of people that bothered to train the relevant skills are likely to be low.

I would have trained them but I don't really have any desire to fly other races ships other than my own. I see people mentioning in local quite often so it seems like a lot of players are training them up before that change goes live.

And yet they will all flock to the forums to voice their utter disgust after the patch hits and they can no longer fly a certain ship.

I did that on my main, but my alt is going to end up with all race's destroyer IV and BC IV because I trained up for an Oracle and use a Cormorant for various things, plus being able to move most of my main's ships in a WH and run T1 logi cruisers...

Ugh

Extra skillpoints kind of suck sometimes. My alt's clone cost is going to jump.

CCP has no sense of humour.

Ohhhhh boy. This expansion is going to be FUN.

- Some controversial changes to battleships (some good, some bad, some ugly)... check.
- Significant increases in mineral costs for battleships (complaints about wealth divide, not cost effective, etc)... check.
- Nerfing of resistance bonuses (even with it at 4% people will harp and complain)... check.
- Near complete revamp of the exploration system (people have to learn from scratch all over again)... check.
- Major prerequisite changes to a variety of ships (that many people are still confused and asking questions about)... check.
- Splitting of two major skills into eight racials based on their lower class skills (which people will complain endlessly about no matter what)... check.
- Ice being moved from static belts into moving ones that have to be scanned (interrupts the bubble that some miners have set up around themselves)... check.
- Overall ice amounts in high-sec reduced by 20% (POS operators are gnashing their teeth)... check.
- Capital rigs (small corps/alliances with capitals will complain about the cost and wealth divide)... check.
- Tracking Enhancer nerfs (many kiters will fume)... check.

Did I miss anything?
Get some earmuffs and bathtubs ready people... the whining and tears will be EPIC when June hits.

I had BC 5 on all 4 of my accounts long before any of this came to light. I did train Destroyer 5 on them in reaction to the news and while it will end up being a waste because I never flew Desi and I still haven't seen a Desi I'd consider flight worthy, I have 'skilled out' so it was a few weeks on each account that I had nothing in the queue anyway. The only element I don't have dealt with is Command Ship requisites. Only one character has the new requisites for a CS. All four have CS trained to 4 but three accounts only have Leadership 5 and Link Spec 4. The new requisites are to have all the base command bonus skills to 5.

tldr: it's a bit of both.

The problem is that people see skillpoints like they see an exp bar in traditional MMOs. Also, the idea that other people gets free stuff and they don't really bothers them.

Don't forget buying sec status. People complaining about the lack of risk and commitment when becoming a pirate.

Now, more than ever, we need a dislike button.

80% of active pilots.

in 2007 i've thought it's a sci-fi simulator, not an "e-sports" game. I'm not a teenager, how would i like it much?

I like how this thread didn't even reach five posts before someone started spouting misconceptions about the skill changes.

In any case: I fly battlecruisers all the time so battlecruisers 5 was a good idea for me anyway, and I already have destroyers 5 so I can fly a Sabre. Getting the other skills to fly all of the destroyers and battlecruisers was a no-brainer and I may potentially fly them anyway. No reason not to be prepared.

I haven't started training the prerequisites for Command Ships yet but I will when my current skill has finished training. I'll get that done with about a week to spare. I won't be doing fleet boosts for a very long time but seeing as CS have yet to be rebalanced they could conceivably turn out to be pretty good combat ships in their own right, so it's best to be prepared.

We did run into an Absolution fleet a few weeks ago. Forgot who it was though. I'm tempted to say it was NCDot and Black Legion.
We outnumbered them in Maels and we lost because we couldn't track them worth ****.

I can't wait to be told to add not just carriers, but then command ships to my ~elite spacecommunism~ training plan.

I think I need to inject command ships. But I have had BC V since January. My alt who isn't even a combat alt managed to get BC IV, D IV and all the prerequisites. I don't think I have enough time to get D V, I definitely don't have time for BC V.
