Don't have an issue with this, but I'd start it heavily nerfed - limited to only 2 (out of 3 characters) per account.
Prudent to start with baby steps.

You may need to change the login UI to display with CLARITY the number of characters in training.
A short tl;dr summary is always better than player having to confirm individually over the portraits.

See everyone? This is how you post. He capitalized things and used those funny things at the ends of his sentences.
There's one allcaps WORD, but he doesn't just do it randomly. So it makes sense IN context.
It even has a good idea at the end of it.

I currently run 3 accounts (100mil, 75mil and 50mil skillpoints). But I don't want to take time off of those characters, who all kind of fall under the definition of "Mains" to train up characters that are clearly "alts" (cyno, trade, PI, light industry). This change may get me to consider occasionally grabbing an extra plex or two to train up "alts".

However, is this going to be strictly limited to plex only, or is there also going to be an option to purchase extra time with RL money (say, $10-15 to get 1 month of training on an alt for the same account). Not sure if I would use RL money to actually do so, but interested to see if you have considered that option.

Seriously, has anyone run this past the high level business types at CCP?

If it this feature reduces sub counts then advertisers and investors would conclude that there are fewer players than expected, which implies that Eve has a smaller marketshare which makes Eve even more of a niche game which makes CCP/Eve a riskier venture to invest in.

Even worse, the increase in PLEX sales could turn Eve that much more of a cash cow, and business folks milk cash cows, they don't invest in them nor do they take risks with them.

Seriously, this could backfire on CCP.

Not sure if troll. Probably 70% probability of being so, judging by last sentence.

Anyways, CCP both decides when to reveal sub numbers to avoid the dumb web-o-sphere doing this and is also privately owned, so aren't nearly as reliant on quarterly growth chasing investment bankers or stock holders looking for nothing more than a quick buck. They may have a few investors (I don't know their financial situation myself), but it's probably not nearly as dangerous as you suspect it is.

Plus, CCP isn't putting out a crappy game catered to casual players who'll play for 2 months and unsub. Besides, CCP will continue to make money based on increased PLEX sales, which is all that really matters at the end of the day.

There is no reason anyone will use this, as basically you may as well just start a new account and train a character, if you have to pay a plex either way. Why would anyone choose to pay to train a character which you cannot log in simultaneously as your main, it really seems pointless to say the least.

Now if the training was on THREE characters on the account for the price of 1 plex I could understand the appeal - as a compensation for not being able to log it in and multibox you train 1 character for free effectively. But as it is there is no incentive, and feels like a waste of isk/money. Training three characters would also open up the possibility that people will train 3 for the price of 2, and then transfer them to a new account, or even sell on the character bazzar! - which would net CCP 2x plex, or what is it, £34 per character transfer. CCP need to crunch numbers but this in the long run might be the better financial option.

A lot of people only need really low SP alts and what with the unlimited buddy invites, and the current power of 2 deals there are far better options to spend your plex on than this.

That has to be the most clueless paragraph today. If CCP put it in the game right now i'd use it rather than go through the pain of adding another account and then having to use more plex to take the newly train alt off that account etc.

How is this any different than having a second account? In fact, having a second account costs you the same and you can play them both at once. If you use this feature you're just kicking yourself in the head because you can only log in to one char at a time. Roll

11 pages is a lot to readShocked

So if everyone read the post saw 1 person with the same opinion as them, and did not comment CCP would only see 1 person with that opinion and ASSUME it was not important or valid. The more people who post with the SAME opinion the better, if we want that opinion to be taken seriously.

1) can't imagine why would I need 3 toons on single account instead of 3 toons on 3 accounts (which can be used as fleet);

2) single EVE account with 3 toons in training cost ~50$ per month. Interesting. Highest monthly fee in the industry afaik.

Convenience.

But that doesn't mitigate the extra cost...no? OK at their cheapest, plex's cost 15 bucks a pop when you buy 10. Even if you pay for an account month to month, it's less than that, so in the off chance that you screw up, or find a sex crazed significant other (or encounter any other equivalent time sink,) and can't afford to plex with isk, you're saving money buy having a real account, in addition to this, you gain another 2 slots for things like cyno alts or other things.

CCP is handing us a rotten fish and touting that it's the thing we've always wanted. Well...I know they eat messed up stuff in that part of the world, but come on...this is a raw deal which is being advertised as groundbreaking...and I am confused at how the Eve community doesn't see that.

You know what, if they let you open all 3 slots to training for a plex a month in addition to your normal payment, I would love to see this move forward, and would happily hop on board, but I agree with you, this **** is as bad as the monocle.

All right, let me give you an example. Say I have two characters--not alts, full characters--on two accounts. One is in a wormhole. One is in Empire. Both could use scouting alts. Scouting alts require very little in the way of SP. With this change, I can spend a grand total of 2 PLEX once, put a scouting alt on each of those accounts, train them up without pausing the training on my mains, and then, when I want a scout for one character, I just log in the alt on the other character's account. I can even train them up in something ISK-making or useful on the side. I can't run both mains if I do this, but that's OK, because I don't ever do more than dual-box anyway.

Should I ever need them to do something else, another PLEX gets me another 30 days' training.

This is a nice little convenience. I approve.

You can train alts you might not want an extra account for. Like cynos, PI alts or haulers, use a plex and you won't loose sp on your primary char.

If you can't see the value in it then open another account and maintain it. Nothing is preventing you from doing that.

This is for situations where people who only maintain one account might want to train up a hauler for their pirate main without interrupting Command Ships V, for instance.

CCP has no sense of humour.
