This is exactly my point. Now no one will be surprised since everyone will have the intel automatically. Is that what you want wormholes to be for everyone? Yourself and your targets?

Confirming, you will never catch anyone in a WH with this new discovery scanner. Just like you never catch anyone ratting/mining in 0.0 with the local chat, right?

I didn't say that. But I doubt many people want wormholes to become as safe as null.

Wait, you just said that "No one will be surprised". That sounded pretty much like you thought no one would be surprised in an anomaly. What was it you wanted to say?

And where does this rumor of "safe as null" even come from? There are plenty of ratters/miners/missionrunners killed in null everyday.

I don't think the scanner is working on Singularity as it will in the final version. At least I hope not. I like the idea of being able to activate your scanner just from your hud and see the results visually. But it runs automatically every time you undock or jump into system. Don't get me wrong the effect looks nice, but it will get boring very quickly like that.

And besides people should have to consciously make the decision to activate the scan, not have it spoon fed to them every time they undock/ come through a gate.

Because pressing a button is hard and fun.

It is for most players simple a stupid routine task they have to do. And actually right now it seems that you have to pay attention to that free scan, because the results of that first free scan do not last.

He said safe as null, not safe as high sec or safe as ogrimmar. Plenty of killed missionrunners und one or two titans per week is the current status of being "safe as null sec", and he seems to like his wh space stay different in this regard.

Remove insurance.

Quit ignoring the problems with local? think how many more would be caught if local didnt tell EVERYONE in system a hostile was entering, letting them begin aligning to warp before the hostile even loads grid on agte.

fact is, this change will make it so ONLY the STUPIDEST daytrippers will get caught, which is bad, this is like wormhole-local almost in the safety it provides, because it is 100% intel (as far as what sigs are in system with you) for 0% effort.

Just going to point this out, as per this post

The sensor overlay finds cosmic anomalies with 100% accuracy (just like the onboard scanner) and shows you the rough location of cosmic signatures so you know to drop your probes.

Can you confirm that system scanner shows or does not show SHIP signatures? Screw the pve :).

It does not show ship signatures or similar. Only PVE sites are being shown.

I doubt the scanner will break wormhole space. The question will be if new K162s are shown or not. This could easily be remedied by making them only visible to actual probing.

Currently probes are used to find new WH spawns. And usually its a Deep Space Probe. But CCP is taking DSPs away and the discovery scanner is supposed to replace the functionality of the DSP. As such the discovery scanner should display a list of all signatures, just like the DSP does now.

If the Discovery scanner were to not list the sigs, then CCP should retain the DSP.

There is no such mystery in wormholes, everyone has probes out and new signature will be noticed immediately.

Discovery Scanner changes nothing in this regard, and people will still use probes, because the discovery scanner is just an extra step for finding out sigs.

You would be *amazed* how many bads are in wormholes and don't have probes out all the time.

Ed: After reading the whole thread, it seems to me that while the possible safety in wormholes won't change, the average and median safety will go up quite significantly. That is, if WHs and K162s appear automatically.

I'm an idiot, don't mind me.

I agree. They should keep DSPs to provide intel and have the discovery scanner show players what is possibly out there.
