anyone remember the 2005 Guiding Hand Social Club heist ?

Whether you're impressed with heist itself or not, the story was a compelling one and it brought many, many players into EVE. Among those who game but don't play EVE, its one of only two things they seem to know about the game (the other being It's Hard). CCP should have given the participants lifetime memberships on that basis alone.

Also, props to OP for working those same e-fame skills to move their story to the top of the pile. If it isn't one of the ones chosen for CCP's multimedia campaign, I will be very, very surprised. How smart is CCP with this multimedia push? They're selling the idea of a fictional character becoming famous in reality for doing fictional things. Excellent marketing.

While not as big (and possibly even true) of a scam, I much prefer The Great Scam. I read that and instantly started playing Eve.

very different :) ours was a mercenery infiltration / espionage contract , not what I would call a scam at all

I'll check that one out. Bad Bobby pulled off the best heist in Eve history IMHO. I think the Ponzi scam got a little more ISK, but anyone who didn't see that coming a mile away is a ********. I forget what the Ponzi one was called, they used to spam it though.

I always love that story even if, as you mentioned, it's likely a fake.

and massive props to the GHSC for bringing the focus on EVE, it's something I've spoken about a number of times with non-EVE players (when I've mentioned I play)

Yes, this was the reason I started playing . . .

And then, a year or so ago, I saw a GHSC member can baiting in a recon ship outside of a station. It was a rather extreme letdown.

Wasn't me! But yeah expecting everyone in an internets spaceships corp to be super cool at all times is a bit unrealistic.

I finally took the time to reread your story and the original story. For some reason I thought NTRabbit was involved, but I don't know why. Maybe it was some other published story? Or something on the forums?

I don't think he did anything on this contract, it's possible he was one of the people clearing corp hangars I suppose !

When I was still a noob I ran into Istvaan Shogaatsu making a Jita run in a Nightmare. I had never seen anything so impressively terrifying.

I convo'd him just to hero-worship a bit and tell him I was a fan, he said he had a cloaky posse just outside station and I believed him. We ended up having a semi-lengthy conversation in which he attempted to encourage me to pull off a heist and hand over the spoils to The Guiding Hand Social Club as an entrance requirement into the cabal.

He ended up sending me a screencap of his wallet, it had over 1 trillion ISK in it.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

I remember this made it into regular gamer news, it was one of a few things that made me hear about Eve and eventually got me playing.
