I dont have any problems at all. I use my Dominix as a pure sentryboat since they are making it a pure droneboat in the new expansion. I have a drone range within 125 km and i snipe with sentry's at 100 km (and closer, since they move towards me.)

+ I use the MJD (Microwarp Jumpdrive) to jump away from the NPC's - and this is actually working really well.
And im not that good at EVE yet, 6 m skillpoints soon and above 1 m in drones. And i bring around 400 DPS (pure drone damage) and i like it.

.. And yet i suck.

Well, use at least 3 drone damage augmentors, preferably 4.

I have 3 damage amplifier II.

I use sentries, lights, and heavies (often even to kill frigs).

My Rattlesnakes are setup for remote drone rep. Works great.

Generally after about half-way through a group I can deploy heavies without problems.

I completely ignore triggers, and just shoot everything.

It seems to me that they nerfed then renerfed the nerf to drones. I still need to watch drone health, but it's not as bad as the first few weeks after retribution.

I use faction drones while my t2 is still training, the lack of range hurts but their tracking is actually superior
I use a midslot for drone tracking link thing which means that my gardes can pop incoming interceptors and such. Hell my ogres can hit most frigates.

The perfect drone setup for Rattlesnake:

Garde II - Main drones 15-50k
Curator II - Blood/Sansha 50k+
Berserker II - Angels mainly 15k and under
Hornet II - Best lights for speed/def/dmg ratio with best average damage type.

Use with 2 drone omni's. 3 damage amps.
Have good drone skills!

If your cruise missiles are doing good damage you shouldn't get the mobs on your drones much at all.
One drone link augmentor and use the last high slot for a very long range nos. (( This will help you keep aggro ))

Go get your sexy up!

So you're simply avoiding the problem.

Aggro switching seems to be extremely range/falloff sensitive. I.e. when you are presenting yourself as a target that is in a comfortable range to shoot at, NPCs may not switch to drones. On the other hand, when you're out of range, they will switch to your heavy drones instantly - since those are then the only targets in comfortable shooting distance.

Combined with the effect that everyone and their mother consider heavy drones a valid target, that makes them a weapon system purely for brawling - while before they were a good weapon system (if you fit something to compensate for their movement speed) for fast ships like Gila or Ishtar that are less than ideal for sentries.

Sentries are currently the ONLY drone weapon system with non-negligible DPS to cover the 90% of time targets are outside of the 10km zone heavies are useable in.

Heavies are technically a short range weapon system. There is nothing broken in them being at risk when sent on long distance tasks, and most droneboats can carry a full flight of sentries and a full flight of heavies - the gila is far and away the least troubled cruiser by that issue as it can carry 2 sets of sentries, a set of heavies and a set of lights. If you need to reduce damage by moving, orbit a sentry drone - once you've thinned out the approaching pack you can yank the sentries, pop out heavies and start moving to the objective. You may not even need to have killed any battleships at that point, as battleships often cannot hit orbiting heavies.

Haven't lost a sentry ever. The heavy drones are too slow, so I just don't use them.

I tried doing some level 4s yesterday, launching drones only to kill frigates that got too close to kill with my railguns. As quick as I was to react frigates deciding to attack them, I still lost a few light drones.
It doesn't help that there is no hotkey to recall them and, if one gets damaged, it gets sent back out over an undamaged drone.

My mission ship having low DPS might be another thing making it worse. But I think it might be best to treat my drones as expendable ammunition, not a ship component I expect to survive the mission. And that I should switch back down to using tech 1 drones.

shift+r recalls drones. keep getting better skills and use the hotkey. you can set the hotkey in bindings BTW.

ran enough missions to buy a plex in the last few days, havent lost any except for forgetting to recall on Damsel when i blew up the hideout.
