Ok so the CSM is a PR stunt, these forums are crap, people are insane and the CSM should only be for Null.

Not really sure why your still posting, you have shown that your reasons for not wanting this change is entirely selfish, to keep the voting numbers down you will fight any change that would mean more people will vote.

Hey Malc, is this guy trolling or do you need to find out if he voted first?

Even if CCP made up every other vote, I'm certain that FD voted.

Anyway, I quite liked the idea, but if it gives you the oppression heebie-jeebies then w/e, no point taking counterproductive actions.

My favorite idea to boost turnout is to have Concord refuse to respond if you haven't voted... Twisted

I have several issues with this suggestion, one of which is that the Goons in general are on the voice of reason. It makes them incredibly hard to despise when they're actually participating intelligently etc. Way to murder the stereotype!

So anyway, the actual issues I see:

CSM is representative of the voters, but CSM should represent the players. To me that's a key difference. I think it's very problematic if the tag can be used to disregard players (Or harass - ala Scarlet Letters) who for whatever reason did not vote. Knowing EVE players and the internet, that will happen, it's only a question of extent. Arguments or proposals to the CSM should be viewd on their merit, not on whether the poster voted in the last election.
Furthermore, a "badge of honour" might increase the participating percentage, but solely due to a prize, and not because of interest or advocacy. I think the goal is to have as high a percentage of interested voters as possible, not just an 80% vote for kitteh, usable as PR and ... what else?

Should CCP do more about CSM advertising?
YES.
Should they do stuff like the dev. blog, or the ingame e-mail, or splash banners, or regular e-mail, and voting videos, and certainly more that I am forgetting right now?
Yes. Preferably a little through the year, around both Summits (And/or expansions) and around election time.
Should CCP give badges, vanity items or *shudder* ingame effective things to voters?
No.
...
unless...

...we radically change the principles around CSM and voting. Imagine that your vote was public. You voted for a candidate, and your vote is viewable by everyone who is logged in and cares to look it up.
The candidate in turn has to pander to you directly. You're a very obvious part of his constituency, after all. And he can't just ignore his constituency, because...
You can retract your vote.
And give it to somebody else.

It is combined with (a kind of) mandatory voting that prompts every account to vote for a) a candidate b)none of the candidates. You can't log in without one of these options. If a majority of the votes go to b), all running candidates are banned for 30 days for crimes against democracy, and a new vote is held.
Suddenly, all allegations of populism and pandering will be obviously correct.

(And no, I don't think it's a good idea, but it might be food for thought.)
